I'm already thinking about my next bass fishing season here in Utah. Curious to know what everyone's favorite place is to go to try and catch Large or Smallmouth bass.
Here's my vote (Feel free to disagree and share your opinion):
1. Lake Powell - beautiful, and full of hungry bass
2. Sand Hollow - I've never not caught a fish at this place all year long
3. Minersville - Place has some nice populations of smallmouth
4. Deer Creek - There are some decent fish to be had here
5. Utah Lake - Challenging, but rewarding when you tie in to one.
Which lake would you add? And which lake would you take away?

Some of the lakes you left off are no brainers.
1. Pelican
2. Starvation
3. Steinaker
4. Flaming Gorge
5. Quail
6. Gunlock
That's the order of the ones you left off your list, there's a couple other "sleepers" too.
My personal list is:
1. Powell-numbers, size, scenery
2. Pelican-numbers (size at times)
3. Sand Hollow SIZE and numbers
4. Deer Creek-close to home, numbers (size left after the spear fishermen decimated it.)
5. Quail- Size
My list is slanted towards largemouth, there are more smallie lakes that would make the list if that's your passion.

I can't argue with any of these, but I'd replace Deer Creek with Jordanelle. DC seems to be dinksville for me and Jordanelle still puts out decent smallies as well as ego swelling numbers and is not much farther drive wise.
But if the consensus among you guys is that it's terrible, thats fine with me.

I would put pineview ahead of deer creek

I need to learn Pineview... I personally can't rate it because I've never fished it for bass.

I'm not going to "rank" any places. But here are a few that small mouth chasers shouldn't be overlooking:
1. New Castle
2. Minersville (already mentioned by the O.P.)
3. Otter Creek Reservoir
4. Piute Reservoir
5. Enterprise reservoirs (upper and lower)

That is my exact list as well! I just flipped the order a little bit. Here is a my write up on the whole thing:

I'm getting stoked to go out and do some bass fishing this year!
1. Powell --by a landslide. San Juan arm...enough said
2. Sand hollow - decent size
3. Pelican - Should be in everyone's top five if they ever fished it
4. Flaming Gorge - like powell...this like is huge. Hungry bass
5. Jordanelle - love me some smallies

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Mantua. There are some nice largemouth in there. I don't know that I've even fished five bass waters in Utah, most of my time is spent out of state, so I won't post a top five. I would love to get down south and try Powell and Sand Hollow someday though.

I know I caught some larger LM in Quail. I am surprised more didn't mention Utah Lake. Seen some BIG ONES pulled outta there this past year.

Powell -Scenery, numbers, big fish.
Sand Hollow - Home of my biggest utah bass caught.
Quail - Quality but tough fishing at times.
Pelican - Numbers and real aggressive fish.
Mantua - Numbers and I love fishing timber.
Utah Lake kicks out some quality fish, but doesn't fish consistent throughout the season.

An interesting question, one that I have spent years in developing. Having fished all of these for decades I put my 2cents in:
1: Lake Powell - Can't say enough about this water. Some of the best LMB, SMB in the country.
2: Flaming Gorge - The Gorge is one of the best SMB waters in the country offering both size, numbers and scenery.
3: Pelican - Even on a bad day, you can catch huge numbers of LMB with an occasional large one in the mix. Best Top Water lake around !!
4: Quail Creek - Great LMB fishing, numbers and size.
5: Utah Lake - One of the sleepers we have. One of the big plus' for Utah Lake is that it is the best fishery close to the Wasatch Front.
Honorable Mentions: Red Fleet ( no one else mentioned this one) Great SMB and Blue gill. Starvation, Jordanelle, Deer Creek, Minersville, Mantua, Pine View, Enterprise ( small water, big SMB), Sand Hollow, Gunlock,
1 choice quail creek good bass fishing 2 enterprise 3 new castle 4 otter creek 5 sand hollow to easy to fish

I will have limited time fishing 2014 due to my wife having a baby this summer. One goal I want to accomplish is at least get a good day out on a bass water, and increase my bass fishing skills. I wonder if you guys could help me? Here is what I need
1. I will be in a float tube so I don't want to deal with a power squadron or a big crowd. I can fish on weekdays if I get it off early enough
2. I know no one can GUARANTEE catching a fish, but somewhere where I have a high probability of catching a fish, and it isn't fickle to fishermen (I'm looking at you willard bay!)
3. I live in Delta so it will need to be no more then 2-3 hours away (I am planning on fishing the Sevier River....great bassing hole)
That's all. I really just started bass fishing seriously last summer, and am really enjoying it, so if I can be educated on the best holes, I'd much appreciate it!

It's a long drive from here in the middle of the state, but if you are fishing bass from a tube there isn't any where in the west that is better than pelican about the 15th of May. Well worth the drive. Take a few days and a light weight rod, fish in the pockets all along the north side, and catch fish till your arms fall off. later treetop
1 for me fg, but it hasnt treated me to well the last two years but i also haven't focused on the sm either but i certainly seen plenty (up to 12") of them in the burbot's bellys, they have taken the numbers down but that might turn into less but bigger bass it did seem like the bass were starting to stunt because of the high numbers, but if you target bass at this lake their will not be one day you go home skunked!!! 2 dc in 3the jordanell 4 utah lake 5lol pelican.

If you want to learn more about bass fishing I would say to try to get with some one that fishes for bass..
Pick a date and time and get on the water time, but remember to pay your share or find out up front what it may be..
Trip to Powell may be $200. to $300 per person A trip to Jordanelle may be $20 to $30 for a day per person, just to give you some ideas..
