With these cold temps I was wondering if anyone has driven by Rockport, Lost Creek or East Canyon and if there was ice formed yet?

Utah State Parks website says Rockport capped last night.

So these lakes may have capped.. but my question is what will happen once the daytime temps start climbing back in the mid thirties next week. It will all likely melt away right? I have generally heard that none of these lakes are fishable before the 1st.

Thanks I didn't think the state updated that page that frequent.

Four inches is pretty thick but that's probably close to shore. As far as the ice breaking up next week you can't never tell. I'd probably say no with such cold temps. But unless other people are on the ice I drill a hole near the shore(close enough to the shore that if I do go through I'm still standing on the bottom) to check thickness and about every ten yards or so to verify the ice is thick enough as I go out.

Rockport has ice. The highway side is an inch and sketchy, some open water. However the boat launch in the park,has1 3/4 inches.... And I fished it. The DWR. Said it was open water 12 hours before I walked on it. here is the first fish on the hard deck!!! I caught 2 18 inchers and 3 10's including a double

[cool] This year seems to be a little different than average years as far as when lakes are freezing up. I think there's only one day or two next when temps in the VALLEY will be in the 30's. It'll be 20's up at those lakes, so the ice is going to keep on growing for the time being.

This year is different. The lakes that freeze up first usually around Thanksgiving (Huntington, Cleveland, Scofield, etc.) took about a week longer than usual to get their normal caps, but conversely, the lakes that usually freeze up in late December or Jan 1st are freezing up earlier than normal, right as we speak! So these lakes are freezing about 3 weeks ahead of schedule this year, which is great news for us!!!
