Today was just epic. Went ice fishing to cove pond for my lunch break. An old guy pulled over and started screaming at me too get off the ice. I told him it was 9" of ice. Then he asked me if any one else was there watching me. I just said no it's 9" of solid ice. He told me that I was going too drown so I said okay sounds good at least I will die fishing as well I will totally die on 9" of ice. He started shouting more anger in the air then left.

Caught 2 small rainbow trout in 15 min and got off the ice really save and dry.

Can't really hate on the guy for trying to make sure you were safe, still funny though

Ya I know but trust me I was laughing so hard even driving back to work.
Best part was when he told me I was going to drown[laugh].

The workers looked at me like I was crazy too go fishing just for 30 minutes on ice but what ever like one of the csm told me "What ever makes you happy go and do it during lunch." Really wished Riverton pond was open in the winter with all of the variety of species in there and truly would love too catch a white bass or even any other fish except trout. Heard that there are some big ones in there but never caught them when the place was open.

Are you allowed on the ice at Cove? I know a lot of the community ponds have signs that say "stay off the ice".

I know that you're not allowed to get on the ice at Salem pond, but it usually never freezes over very well. There are a couple of springs under water that would make things "entertaining" to say the least.

When I was about 16, I went fishing up at Deer Creek back when there were lots of large perch there. There was at least a foot of ice, probably more like 18". One guy came out on a snowmobile and a couple of guys started yelling at him as they tried to grab their stuff and run. I probably could have driven our truck out there without any issue, but one of the guys was convinced that he was going to flip over the entire ice sheet.

The sign only says thin ice that's it. There's no sign saying no ice fishing and I check the park board and no sign of the ice fishing. Can be fun to get on the ice for a few hrs close by. I ice fished kidney and midas pond and caught many bows and one catfish.

Had a cop take me off sandy pond ice because it was 2.5" last year I wen't might have to check it out this year if it's thick ice they should let ice fisherman take the advantage of close by hard ice ponds especially if it's 5-9"
