help! can anyone, provide an update, of the pflueger reel company? last thet i read, it was bought out.. the new owner, was considering restoring production.. ?

as a kid, the SUPRME.. was the ultimate reel.. !! it's appeal, were, the smooth operation and, the sleek appearance.. what a - dream!! i knew a few guys, who had one.. everything was positive! their best fishing "friend".

the $30 - 40, for one, was way out, of my reach.. and even, if i could have afforded one, my parents, would have called me, the biggest fool.. waster of money.. !!

AND.. TODAY... !!!!

[cool]Hi m t creel,

Haven't got the slightest idea about the quality of their reels. Don't see too many new ones around.[Tongue]

for now, will wait and see, how plueger works out..

i have another inquiry.. re: the ACTION ROD CO.. back when, they made a solid, stainless steel, casting rod.. durable.. sensitive tip.. etc.. it was a little more pricey, than other rods.. but lasted.. !

i havenn't seen their products, for a long time.. are you familiar with.. know about the company?

I've got a Pflueger spinning reel connected to my Ugly Stick. Haven't had problems with it as far as performance goes. Haven't tried it below 50 degrees yet so not sure how it performs in cold weather. Biggest problem I've had is with casting distance. Not sure if it's the line I've been using or if it's just not matched up properly with my rod or if it's just the reel itself. But so far I'm happy with it. Got a "last years" model, brand spankin' new for $25 when original price was $90.

hi rat.. ty for your note..

you stole the reel!!!!!! tsk... a true bargain.. is it a later model?

my folks, heard me talk about pflueger reels... when i was a kid.. my desire.. when i was in college, they gave one of the first spinning reels, as a gift.. (they forgot the word.. supreme.. [Smile]).. i knew nothing about them.. did not have a spinning rod.. money was short.. traded it for a zebco 33 and a few hooks.. !! it was midsized.. looked rugged.. i think, it cost approx $35.. a lot of money, back then.. it might be valuable today?

Pflueger doesn't have a clearance page on their website. I got the reel from Gander Mountain. It was on their clearance table because it was a "last year" model according to them.

I'm, personally, not sure if the quality of reels sold by the Pflueger Co. is still as highly regarded as it was many years ago. I do know, however, that not all reels with the Pflueger name, even Pflueger Supreme, are not sold, much less designed or produced by the Pflueger Company.

A couple years ago, I purchased a Pflueger Supreme SP-UL ultralight spinning reel from Bass Pro. After receiving it, I tried to obtain spare spools from Pflueger. They informed me the Pflueger Supreme I purchased was not a reel of the Pflueger Company, but instead was a reel sold by Bass Pro using the Pflueger name. I'm not sure what type of license Bass Pro has which allows them to do this, but Bass Pro apparently has the right to do this.

I was able to obtain the spare spools directly from Bass Pro. The reel has proven, so far, to be a good reel, but I strongly feel Bass Pro's tactic, unacceptable trickanery. If nothing else, it causes confusion, at least when ordering a Pflueger from Bass Pro, on what company's reel you may be ordering.

hh.. thank you for your reply, regarding plueger co. ..

i agree.. it is Sad to see a reputable sporting goods company, struggle..!! i wonder, if plueger co., licensed bass pro shops, to make the reel? sounds like plueger, dosn't have anything, to do, with the product..!? is your reel made in usa? wish you, the best, with it..

i bought a plueger akron, baitcasting reel.. like new.. several years ago.. at a farm sale.. buried in a misc. box of "treasures".. for $2.00.. at least, i have a momento of the company! have my eyes/ears open, for a supreme.. 50's vintage..

have you been in a cabella's super store? i was in the kansas city one, over thanksgiving.. ohhhhhh.. myyyyyy.. talk about a.. dream house.. that was it.. !! saw an old, used.. gun.. only $50 k .. told em, i would take 4.. only had one... no sale.. ! prices were high! can buy, same fishing supplies, at wal mart.. cheaper....

have a good day.. happy.. 2004 !

You're right. Pflueger won't have anything to do with my Bass Pro Pflueger Supreme. I'm sure there's some type of licensing or sale involved. From cross checking Cabela's and Bass Pro, it appears Pflueger's top-of-the-line is now Trion. Cabela's doesn't even show a Supreme. I'm not sure if Pflueger stopped making the Supreme, if Cabela's doesn't stock it, or if Pflueger sold Bass Pro the Pflueger Supreme name. The Bass Pro Pflueger Supreme is made in Korea.

I have that Supreme you're looking for. It was my Dad's and I'm, at this time, not considering parting with it. I'm not sure of its vintage, but it has to be from the late 40's or early 50's. I know he had it around 1951. As far as I know, it never got used fishing. We used to stream fish for trout in those days using bait on fly rods rods and fly line and the Supreme simply stayed in its box. I recall playing with the Supreme a couple times and only ended up with rats' nests.

Yes, I've been to the Sidney Cabela's. It's less than three hours from my house, but I have to limit my trips there because it's too easy to pick up stuff, walking around a store like that. Stuff I'd be able to pass up when I'm browsing their catalog or website. I don't, however, find your comparison between WalMart and Cabela's holds that true. I know most of the Mepps I use are less expensive through Cabela's. Although Wally's admittedly has good prices and is well stocked with fishing equipment considering it's not even a sporting goods store, I find its stock is usually models in the lower lines, e.g. they'd have the Akron instead of the Supreme. Wally's doesn't carry the spinning line I use, however, they do stock the 00 ultralight Mepps which Cabela's doesn't. It's possible to beat the Wally prices at Cabela's by buying the larger packaging, i.e. 600+ yd spools of line and 100 count packages of hooks that Cabela's has which Wally's doesn't.
