I wasn't sure of the weather last night, so I didn't call anyone until I got up this morning and had my coffee and paper, then saw that the rain was several hours away, so I called Fred (fishaddiction) to see if he was up for a 2.5 hour fishing trip, similar to the trip that the Minnow took. He agreed to be Gilligan, so it was a safe launch from HBSP at 9:30. We fished until 12:00.

About the time that we hit the open water and I was about to show him one of my new spots, the wind suddenly got up so bad that we weren't able to fish the spot, but did see the fish suspended over and around a big stump on a drop off. So, it was off to the bluff to block the wind and see what was happening. Not much was happening as far as numbers. We missed the morning peak feeding time, so we just had to fish for stragglers.

But, the first straggler that I caught was a hunk of a black crappie at 14.25 inches and 1 lb 13 oz. Caught it on a blowdown on a 1/24 oz jig head with a Full Moon Bobby Garland 2" baby shad attached. I thought at first that it might have been a little Smallmouth bass as hard as it was pulling, but when I saw it, I scrambled for the net. Fortunately, it stayed on until I got my net ready.

I caught 5 crappie and had another heavy crappie on that pulled off just before it got to the boat and just before we got it up enough to see it. emoBang I at least like to see them if they get off. We released all fish anyway, but I wanted to see it. I also caught the smallest bluegill that I have ever caught on a jig. The 2.5 inch little guy was in 20 feet of water and my jig was right on the bottom. It must have been trying to commit suicide. We threw him back. He will have to try another way to die. emoBigSmile emoGeezer

I enjoyed our short time together today, Fred. Maybe next time, we will have a little longer to fish and the fish may be biting better.
