Decided I had to get out of the house today and try the hard deck. Started out going to Shelly pond. It is mostly frozen over and there were at least 2 groups on the ice. However there seems to be a bit of water coming in from the river I'm guessing since there was about a 10-15 area around the entire edge that had water on the surface up to 4" deep. There was mostly solid ice under that. I didn't go out further to test it but there were several kids out there plus the groups ice fishing it including a shack. On the end nearest the road there was still some open water area near a pipe from the fields dumps in. Since my boots aren't water proof above about 1 inch opted to skip it. We then went to Ryder Pond and it is solidly frozen with about 4-6 inches in the center. Over the aerator is open water but I was going no where near that! We quickly got a hit on the jaw jacker before we even got the 3rd rod set up. It got off at the hole. Reset and it went off again as we set the last one. In the end we landed 10-12 typical planters. Lost a few others. Had a good time though. They preferred a dead stick with small orange rat finkie with half a meal worm below a small kastmaster. The best part was only two others there in a shack (no crowd!). Now I'm psyched to hit Henry's on Wednesday for the big ones!
