Decided to try and live up to the name FG gave me, AKA Spikes Pike!
Woke up at 5am and headed down south. Sure enough my auger handle broke, and I was forced to spend 45 minutes trying to drill using my hands on the red part of my eskimo auger. After getting through 12 inches of ice I was almost out of energy. And it got worse, my tent was difficult to set up (bad poles), and I managed to step on my sunglasses.
Things were super slow for the 1st two hours. I got lucky when a Nephi group dropped by and let me use their auger. I traded info for the holes, we swapped stories, and went our separate ways.
By noon the 1st fish came up, only a 22.5 inch pike.
With a few more missed fish I was happy to have landed this 29.5 inch pike. It almost got away from me but I managed to sink both my arms in the hole to recover it.
Managed 2 more pike (23 incher and a 25 incher) just before Redfrog appeared out of nowhere. I should have taken a pic of him drilling a hole 2 inches from my tent!
For a total of 4 northern pike I left at 5pm when the sun went over the hill. While talking to the other anglers 2 guys managed 1 pike each, the other 6 people there got the skunk. Looks like I will be able to hand out my Pike Chowder as a Christmas gift after all!
