Moved back to Utah recently, learned how to fly fish and I got hooked!! Gonna try ice fishing to get in my weekly fix. Im in the Layton area.
One of my fishing buddies is older and doesnt get around as well. Looking for recommendations on easier accessible locations from the parking lot. Hyrum and PV are 2 areas that I'm semi familiar with. Are Holmes, Mantua, Hobbs, and Causey places that you might take an older gentleman ice fishing?
thanks

Welcome man. I'm around the Layton area as well. Mantua is impossible to get skunked at as long as you are willing to move around. Pineview is perch central right now, East Canyon always good for trout, and Causey for Kokes and trout. They stocked Hobbs with cuts using the same slot as Lost Creek, but I have yet to pull anything but dink gills out of there. Holmes has small trout but would be a good place to take the youngins (walk in access required for both)

Holmes and Causey are both difficult access. Hyrum would be fine depending upon where you access it from and same with Pineview (don't access it near the dam).

Use the road to access holmes. (by the fire hydrant and tower) I've seen a lot of people go down the difficult way and I thought i tore my mcl going down the deer paths.

Welcome to the site Kramer, can your friend walk a fair distance or go up small hills? Mantua has the smallest hill to walk besides Hyrum but he would need to walk aways. The hill at PV is steeper but there is very little walking..

I'm pretty sure that cemetery point is his go to spot at PV. Im a little
about these "hills"..I guess i just assumed he parked in a parking lot and made a short/easy walk to cemetary point.

It is a small hill, maybe 75 yds from bottom to top at PV, 30 to 40' high. But at Mantua it is only 10' high, 10 yds from bottom to top. At Hyrum, if you go into the state park, you can drive right down the ramp and walk from the edge of the ice, at least that is what we did on our last trip there.

Welcome Kramer, you can go to the boat ramp at Rockport and have good access to the ice, no hill.

You can also access Hyrum up at swim beach and only have a 15 to 30' elevation change to get on the ice... Seen a big group fishing right off the beach there Saturday, heard they were catching mostly planter bows, but some perch... Good luck... J

Take a left (going south on 89) down gentile Follow the road all the way around Holmes creek and directly across from the golf course driving range you'll see the power line tower and a fire hydrant. Park there and the road is right there. It takes you down to the ramp and even goes around a little more. Look up valley view golf course on google maps and zoom in to see the road. Hope this helps
