I am looking for info on the Boulders. I would like to backpack in for a couple of days. Mainly looking to flyfish both stream and stillwater. I would be coming up from Vegas so would like to stay on the south side. Is there a good place to get a detailed trail map? I have heard there is some nice places to go and really want to give it a try.

Here is an overview:

Also do a search on here. They are mentioned occasionally, but more by PM.

Good luck

Folks are pretty tight-lipped about the Boulders. Many lakes can be accessed using 4WD or ATVs, but if you are willing to backpack, you can find complete solitude. The plateau is very high at 11,000 feet, but many of its lakes are shallow, so you may want to stay below the rim.

Use Google Earth to check out lakes and trails with fishing potential and then research the internet. You might be able to discover some secrets. EveryTrail and Backpacker have some GPS tracks for the Boulders that provide a lot of information.

My two cents is that if a lake is deep enough to hold fish and not too accessible by motored vehicles, you almost can't go wrong.

Thanks for the info. Been looking around on the world wide web. Not looking for anyones secret pond just a nice place to hike into spend a couple of days and do a little fishing. a lot of what I have found are shallow and tough to fish from shore.

There are some great lakes on the boulders that is for sure. Make sure you do make noise in some of the back country areas to keep the bears away.

check out the Chriss Lake, Moosman, Deer Lake area. It's a great place to backpack, camp, and fish. It would satisfy all of your criteria: backpack in, fish lakes and streams, have some solitude.

Wormandbobber can give you all the details on the area you need. II'll send you a map.

I have checked out the website. I appreciate all the help. I am looking forward to giving it a try. Just need to figure out when to head out. I already have a trip planned to float the Snake River the end of June
