I'm looking for a new spinning rod. I'd like to be able to throw some swim baits, so it needs to be able to handle a 2+ oz lure. Aside from giant surf casting rods, I can only find spinning rods for 1 oz lures or under and it seems they only make bait casting rods that handle swimbaits nowadays...
Any thoughts on a decent rod? I also use braided line as well, so it needs fuji guides or an equivalent.
I have a new baby, so I'd like to keep this relatively cheap, so under $200 would be good... Thanks!

Good luck... Going to have to be a surf rod I am betting. Anything meant for freshwater and rated for weights like that is going to be a baitcaster.
A 2oz weight and braid zinging off my finger via a spinning real is something I wouldn't want to be doing myself.
Best I can find is in the Dobyns Champion line. 1 1/4oz. Over your price range unless you are active duty/retired then a deal is available.

You need to shop for "Inshore" spinning rods. The Shimano Compre Inshore line has spinning tackle for lures up to 4oz. At 8 feet long, they aren't quite a surf caster, so they are manageable.
Heres a link to the BPS listing for the Inshore Compre, and at $130, well within your price range.

Hi Greg, welcome to the site, I normally don't respond to posts like this with an offer of my services, but here's the deal... I build custom rods, I've shopped at all the retailers in town for 20 years, I know how the suppliers in town have some oddball rod selections. I think I might have an s-glass blank in my stock that will fit your requirements, depending on the components you select we could keep the price well under $200, send me your contact info via PM if you are interested, you are welcome to come by and pull on the blanks I have and see some of my work before committing to anything.
we can build a better rod for your specifics than anything off the shelf, and you'll have your choice of thread colors, guides and handle material and length.
Let me know
Rick

Thanks for the replies guys! I love Shimano, so I may as well go with that rod, I don't know how I missed that... Can't beat that price either.
