Can anyone tell me how the ice is on Strawberry. A group of us were planning to head up tomorrow, but KSL is reporting that the ice is very thin and recommends to wait and let it re-freeze.
We were planning to take sleds and 4 wheelers. Any information would be helpful. We have already been up a few times with no worries, but it has been a week since we were there.
Thanks in advance
I just heard that myself and know for a fact that there was safe ice earlier. So how did it get unsafe so soon? we are or were planning a big event for Saturday, but now we are unsure. Don't want anyone out on unsafe ice.
I think I will call Strawberry marina in the AM to get their take.
I also heard that heavy winds blew some of the ice from Starvation. Anyone know anything about that?

I have fished Strawberry/Soldier Creek twice this week. I measured ice anywhere from 8-15" there is safe ice at strawberry. I was out on it today with quite a few others.

With the temps staying close to freezing or below I don't see how it's possible for strawberry to have unsafe ice no matter how hard the wind blows

I was up at the Berry yesterday, the ice was a safe hard 13 inches everywhere we went. We took both snowmobiles and four wheelers all over the lake. We fished both chicken creeks, and mud Creek and went over towards the ladders with no problems. Theirs about a foot of snow on top of the ice with 3 or 4 inches of slush. Just watch out for snow piled wind drifts and you'll be fine. Dress for a cold outing the temps we're in the negative till about 1030. Fishing was really slow we did Alot of moving around with little success.

KSL meant Starvation, not Strawberry. The ice is plenty safe at Strawberry for machines.

Yes, the road to The Strawberry Marina is kept open for vehicles. There and The Ladders are two of the easiest access points.

Thanks everyone. We found out late last night that the report on KSL was for Starvation.
We did go up today and had a great day. We went out from the main marina, across the lake toward the meadows. There were several areas of slush. We decided to stop short of the meadows and fished along the west shoreline.
We iced several nice fish, and almost all bows. We got a bit nervous of the slush and pulled out about 1:00 PM. Overall, a very good day with great friends
