Planning a trip down FL the middle of Feb.has anybody stayed at any of the resort's there and if so,was it a good experience.
I am also curious with all, this warm weather has it had any effect on the ice.
I will be bringing a snowmobile down and like to go over to cheese hole, think this would be possible ?
Bringing a newby ,want it to be a good experience.
Thanks for any help or pointers in advance.

yes -- the mild weather certainly has had an affect on ice conditions. I believe as of last week there were still a couple spots of open water.

People are using ATVs and snowmachines to access certain areas of the like, including the south end. I would urge caution when crossing the lake -- I wouldn't just take off and head anywhere I wanted at this point....

We've also utilized the lodings at Fish Lake for about 20 years. We keep going back for some reason. It's always been a good experience. What are your expectations?

I was out by Fish Lake yesterday. There is LOTS of open water, with geese on it. There were 4 fishing groups out, 2 on the southwest end and 2 on the northern neck. It seemed quite unsafe. People are still catching fish though. I would use caution. Also, I would not try to go up and over the top to Loa. I drove my tacoma through some drifts and barely made it.

went to fishlake today we were more toward the north and the ice was clear but 6-7 inches thick. there is quite a bit of open water. The fishing was pretty good today though. we caught perch splake and rainbows as well as a small brown and a pup mac

the area around the cheese holes looked like good ice and there were people fishing in the area.

We have been here from thurs and staying till Sunday. The cabins are fun and always a good experience. Fishing slowed today but was steady yesterday and during the morning. There is some open water on the north end but the south end is completely safe no worries other than the pressure cracks that are totally visible. It was 43 degrees at 3pm and the ice is holding up well. Still solid with no signs of rotting.
