Planning on hitting Yuba in the morning (I don't want to be the only one in UT who doesn't hit it this year) and was wondering if we should start from Painted Rocks or the main boat ramp. Just be walking somewhere, no atv. Never ice fished there, never pike fished. I have no grand expectations of catching one, but need to give it a try.
Seems there is a spotlight on the lake lately, so I understand if people would rather not nudge me in the right direction. PM if you'd rather.

If it was me I might turn right after stepping off the ramp at Painted Rock and either wander out by the island or fish below the cliff along the east side if I didn't want to take a mile or two stroll north. I'd fish in areas of 20'ish feet deep and close to the bottom using a jig and minnow or alike. Altho as I recall I may have caught small pike using a perch jig and wacky rigged crawler to it. But what ta heck do I know

Coldfooter, Thanks for your input and response. I don't mind walking a mile, especially if it gets me away from the crowds. And I'm sure you know more than me, a lot more!

take a pair of ice skates as there is no snow to speak of on the lake other words its really slick expect to take a fall or two or more

I don't like it when people ask for advice and don't return to give a report so:
We went to Painted Rocks Monday from 9-2:30 and fished a couple different spots North of the ramp. Just me and my boys. 5 rods, 5 hours- fished 11-28' 2-5' off the bottom. Had one hit, who knows what it was, and that was all. Beautiful day on the ice.
We did see 5 pike iced, nothing "huge", but my kids thought they all looked huge. I'll give it a go a couple more times, hope to land one someday. Never turn down advice.
Thanks Again.

we iced a hand full near the marina the bite was good
we were all alone until we started hooking up then we were in the center of the crowd we fished in less than 15 feet of water just off the bottom we only took home what we would eat that night and set the others free

TLarson- Good for you guys! Looks like you had some quality fun. I'll have to show a photo to my sons so they can see that multiples are possible. Although I'd be happy if we are able to catch one each before the ice melts. Thanks also for the heads-up on the slick ice. It wasn't too bad in the Painted Rocks area, but there were some slick spots.

Spent the morning fishing Yuba again. No bites and only a couple fish on the sonar. Beautiful morning and perfect conditions. Hope it doesn't take 100 fishing hours to figure it out! HA

Thanks to those who gave advice. It only took 3 trips and 50 hours of fishing lines in the water to have 20 minutes of action. We caught 2 today, a 24"er and a large 36"+ fish that put

s on our faces as it ran and fought. Good luck to everyone.
