Hey does anyone have the humminbird transducer for the wide side view sonar? This is not side imaging its just the fish pings like regular sonar. Anyway my question is, how well does this work? I am wondering if it will work on shallow lakes to point out fish to the sides of you. Anyone used this? Thanks J

Oh the transducer has two 16 degree side pointed transducers and one straight down one. The info makes them look quite useful on shallows but they're trying to sell them so its hard to trust that. Let me know your thoughts. J

Doing the math on these transducers it shows that they will mostly just show you suspended fish on either side of you. Anything close isn't going to show up, but it might let ya know if your just missing a pocket of fish on either side of you. Maybe good for Willard to graph a 300' wide swath with a blank spot in the middle. Anyone used other side finders and is the info helpful to put you on fish?

I had that setup back in 1996 and thought it was going to be great. I messed around with it some but never thought it was that great. I only had the one finder though and had a switch so I could go back and fourth. Just kind of lost interest as the info was as great as I had hoped for. That is what I remember but that was a long time ago and the newer stuff might be better? JMO.

Thanks for the info. I was concerned of the same issues plus the area it becomes useful is about 40' to each side and if its very shallow it won't even register very far to the side. It is sort of a limited tool. I think if you are looking for winter Kokanee that are close to the surface it might help you know where the school was as long as they weren't too close. But it misses lots of stuff near you. Probably not worth the $75 cost. Thanks for the input. J

I might still have the transducer and the switch. I wont have time to look for it until next weekend. If I do you can have it. PM me a number or email and I will let you know.
