[:|]Fished Chestfield yesterday, ice was thick almost all the way to the bottomof my auger. Hooked a big fish right off the bat and lost him. Only had 3 other bite all day.

Thanks for the report. It always slows down this time of year.

Just going to bump this thread again. Has anyone been in there to fish? Can a guy get down the road even? Last I heard they were having to park out on the road and sled in. I would like to make a trip down there this week if it is possible to drive in there.

Didn't make to the lake but I drove through lava Saturday. The portneuf was practically at flood stage. Would have thought it was April. Hopefully someone made it up there and will chime in.

Have been wondering about Chesterfield myself, it's been about 3 weeks since my last trip up there. I heard a rumor that it was possible to drive in now. I am going to chance it and attempt it in the morning if the weather is not to bad........if the weather don't cooperate I will fish Twin Lakes. If anyone makes it up that way I'm in a black Dodge and a Clam Bigfoot tent. Will report when I get back.[

No, but thanks for the warning. If it looks to rough in the morning it won't happen.[

Despite the snow and winds I left Franklin and headed for chesterfield this morning ( I had the day off with nothing better to do anyway!) so I could see for myself what was up. Pulled in about 9:00 and had no trouble driving to the boat ramp. Wind was pretty bad but what bothered me even worse was the edges. The new skiff of snow covered where it had refroze out about 20ft. I stepped onto the ice and didn't like it. I then drove around on Banks Rd. to the other side and it looked the same over there. No one else out there, so I headed back to Twin Lakes. Fished Twin from 1030 till 130, landed a few 14 inch trout and 1 small perch and after a 10 minute battle lost a good Rainbow at the 8x20 inch ice pipe!

Thanks for the report . How were the edges at Twin ?

Edges at Twin are very good, solid all the way. There has not been any water going in all winter, though I hear they will start putting it in soon. Ice is 19-21 in. thick.

Thanks for the information .

Since Twin Lakes receives its water through an above ground pipe, they don't start filling it until after the nastiest part of our cold weather is done. Hope there is lots of water for it this year. Come on snow-pack!!!
