Well my older brother and I headed to Clark Canyon Res. yesterday. Let me start off by saying that, that is one of the neatest places. down here in Idaho you don't see those permanent ice houses. that was cool. and the crazy bastards driving on the ice. not that the ice wasn't thick enough but still between the signs saying no driving on ice, and the pressure breaks at the shores just seems kinda scary to me.

The ice was great except on the east side of the dam. That is where game and fish said the ice was dangerous and from what we seen it looked pretty obvious where the ice was dangerous. We stated on the south side of the lake where all of the ice houses we. and the jaw jacker miss on and a tip up miss on other. we were fishing in 22 fow and weren't really marking any fish every once in a while we would have one come threw. but we lucked out there and didn't catch anything there.

Then right as the sun was starting to set game and fish came and checked us. A word of advice when you buy and print you license off at home make sure you push the button that say print license not the button that says receipt. fortunately the officer was a really cool guy and seen that we and made every attempt to follow all rules and laws. and that it was an honest mistake and that we were legal and we following all laws and regs. then he was kind enough to point out that if we want to target ling we were not really in the right location. he did say that we wouldn't catch one there he just said we would be more likely to catch one on the north and north western shores and on the west and south side of the island.

So as the sun was starting to set we packed up everything and headed for the north side. it was pretty cool. I must say that that was one of the best fishing trips I have had in years. we finally iced our first ling at around 9:30. after doing some talkin around and stuff we figured out that we were possibly not quite deep enough. we were only in 21 fow. we were informed that the magic number seems to be 30-40 fow. but we did catch the one on a white paddle bug tipped with sucker meat. other good baits we hear were glow jigs with a grub. but wow that was fun. I highly recommend giving that a try.

Glad you had a good time and caught a fish! I met you when we were leaving, in the white ford parked next to you.

We had pretty good luck averaged about a hit every 30 mins. Missed about 5 and caught 6, but put 2 smaller ones back. Was in 32 ft of water using a glow tube jig with carp meat and a bit of crawler.

It was nice to meet you. Keep after them, we seem to get a better handle on catching ling every time we go back.

I hope you do. A local told me while I was there the stickier the bait the better. and try the north shore. look for '30 to '40 fow that seems to be the magic number. I might be trying flaming gorge this weekend my boys live in rocksprings and I would love to get one more trip in with them this year. before I go to Oregon. Im sure the ice will be gone by the time I get back. but on that note I will be fishing in Oregon there somewhere I believe that springers and last of winter steelhead will be in the rivers there.
