Full Version: How's the water situation looking next year?

Well we've only got a month or maybe 2 at the max of winter left(of course there's also spring which would be awesome if it is really rainy). I don't think we've had a high snow year so far but have we had at least an average year so the water levels shouldn't be lower than they were this year?
[signature]
Yes a wet spring would help to fill the reservoirs with water. But what we really need is the above normal snow pack to increase water flow longer into the late summer and help the aquifers that a lot of people depend on for drinking water, as in wells.
[signature]
We are no where near where we need to be for even a normal water year, the last I heard was we were in the 65% range. Unless the storms we are suppose to get really dumps on us there is no way we will have a normal water year. [frown][frown] If we were to have a wet spring, maybe it would help a little but we need snow in the mountains to store the water to really help us, other wise the water just goes out into the great salt lake.
[signature]
Yeah that's what I thought. However, will the water levels be lower than this past year at the rate we're going? If we can at least get enough to not get worse after a year then we'll be bound to hit a wet year soon.
[signature]
Hard to say without knowing what we will be getting in the next few months. Even if we don't get a lot of snow in the mountains there is a chance that we could get a web spring or a wet summer and that should fill most of the lakes, so if that happens then we won't be any worse than last year. If I took a wild guess, I'd say the water levels will be worse this year and we will be seeing some major water rationing for lawns.[:/]

Utah snowpack is at 76%. All drainages are below average except Escalante.

Hopefully the storms will keep coming and we'll at least catch up some before summer.
[signature]
Oh that's not good. I think we are just going to have to change our lifestyles in general regarding water use. With our raising earth temp's it's said only extremes happen in weather.

Agreed.

That's not going to stop 90% of the morons that have their sprinklers on at 1:00pm, however.

Pet peeve, and a sure way to NEVER get me to shop at your store, is if you are running your sprinklers during the day. It drives me crazy to see businesses do that crap.
[signature]
Not only that but last yeast I noticed people and businesses with their sprinklers on when it was raining already.

Hopefully that will happen. Don't get hopes up too high however because I remember they have hyped up a couple of storms the last couple years and they haven't been much.
[signature]
Trust me we are no where close to our snow pack average at all. We should already be mid 300-400 year pack with a good 100-150" base at snowbird. It's 195 total with a 75" base. That is really bad new so far for Utah. Usually we suppose to get hit hard by end of January- mid February but it's another weak year. Plus we got one more dry year till the 4 year flood season starts. Don't have to much hope for high water this year at all so far unless we get pounded by 20"+ snow storms for the next 2-3 weeks because when we get into may and april the storms get really weak.

All I can say that this year is looking terrible!!!
[signature]
Simple solution. Water supply company should shut off all outdoor water till close to night time.

That also drives me crazy seeing people sprinklers on in the morning [mad]!!!
[signature]
weak storm so far
[signature]
Snowpack statewide up to 92% now http://www.ksl.com/?nid=149&sid=134181
Let's hope the precip keeps coming for the next 2 months.
[signature]
Wow, that is impressive and good to hear, I was really worried before this last serious of storms but maybe we will see some full lakes this year after all[Smile].
I think I'll go and check if the ice is melting at my local lake(Willard) and community ponds.[cool] Last week it was coming off fast and I doubt it slowed down any this week.
[signature]
Even with the recent precipitation, I'm thinkin' it's still on the grim side. Let's hope and pray the storms keep up.

At least with these numbers, we are getting a good start, keeping them high until June would be what we need.
