It was a great tournament and lots of fun. I will be back next year and a big thanks to those that put it together, you guys did great.
Well, you could enter as individuals or as teams, and we made the wrong choice.
First night I caught only seven,
See that little green thing sticking out of the back on the fish third from the right, that tag was for this tournament. That's a Benjamin to me. A lucky guy caught one similar, and it was the money winner, 10 k!
Here were the two big ones. 28 inches and 29.5
Totals for the first night were seven for me, and each of my three teammates with six. Not bad, but not into money, besides the tag. We changed our plan, moved south five miles, try to drill holes, and augurs were down. Recoil spring gone in the power auger and something happened to the hand augurs, as they were not cutting. Two teammates bailed to get an augur fixed, supposedly got lost and ended up in a hotel in Rock Springs- didn't even fish the second night.
I used my now defunct hand augur, spending ten minutes for each hole in only five inches of ice. It was worth it. We found them. I ended up with 41 the second night, and had four fish on different jawjackers at once. It was incredible. It took me two hours to eat an apple the fishing was so fast. Doubles were the norm for me, and with my rods spaced out over 200 yards it was exhausting but awesome. Kris only fished to 11, but still caught 27. If our other teammates would have been there, we would have had over 120 lbs that second night and would have finished third overall. Had I fished as an individual I would have placed second and earned 400, kris would have earned 300. I hope my buddies enjoyed their hotel rooms.
One reason for our good luck is the spot on day two had open water two weeks ago during the bash and there was no one near us. It was incredible. I was dodging open water a bit, with on of my better holes being 35 yards from this pocket, and was 35 ft deep. Ice under my feet was five inches even there.
I am doing the individual bit next year. It was a great tournament and had a blast.
