Headed up to chase pike last saturday. We caught a few, fishing was really slow but it was nice to spend a few hours on the ice! We were in top of the narrows area in a likely looking spot, but we barely saw a fish come through on the finders. Total for the day was five little pike between five guys. Most of them seemed to come through in around 12' of water.

Best part of the day was getting to drive my buddies airboat that he brought though [Smile] very fun toy!

As we were taking off in the late afternoon there was quite a bit of slush and water on top of the ice, if temps keep up the ice won't last long!

Sounds like a pretty average day for Yuba. which is much better than my Saturday, just wishin I could be fishin'.

thanks for the ice report, with the recent wind and warm weather forecast for this week, i'm sure the ice will get soft on the edges fast!! would a wheeler have been possible Saturday?

Hey, Just curious how the elite 4 is treating you so far? the more I learn about my Lowrance, the more I like it.

A wheeler would have been possible, but not advisable in the afternoon. We floated over some pretty deep ruts from wheelers in the airboat, makes me think this weekend that lake will be super soft. Edges were beginning to pull back.

The elite 4 has been amazing! This was the fifth all day trip out with it and I haven't had to charge it yet! Probably will this time because it's getting low though. My dad has a showdown and while that's a great piece of equipment, I like my Elite 4 a ton better! The color screen is much more communicative and the graph mode is far superior to the flasher view, in my opinion. Being able to see a few second's history has been invaluable.

If you're using a sealed, lead acid battery (which most folks do with portable fish finders) you're better off to recharge it EVERY time you use it. If you use it for an hour, recharge it for an hour. They last longer if they are not left in a discharged state.

Gotcha, highs are supposed to be approaching 50 by late this week. Could make for some sketchy ice. Might have to do some "planking". [Wink] let's hope for some colder temps, I'm not ready for soft water quite yet.

My elite 5 draws about .75 amps, with a 7 amp battery. so I get a full day but have never pushed it past about 10 hours of continuous operation in cold temps. Sounds like the elite 4 might get better mileage.

I set the ping rate to high, which gives an almost instant report but I wonder if that eats more juice too?

Pop in a memory card and you can record your graphs, it's fun to go back and see the fish react to your offering.

It's a ton of fun, and really helps you catch more fish. my boy thinks it's better than playing minecraft! I know, who'd have guessed?
