Went to daniels yesterday with 6 friends and it was a pretty slow day of fishing. In 9 hours we only iced 9 fish with the biggest barely stretching the tape out to 18 inches. We moved frequently and fished all along the shore from the first outhouse past the boat ramp all the way over to the dead trees on the far side. We saw several fish swimming around our jigs along the top of the moss as we watched through our holes and had several that would nudge our jigs or barely suck them up then immediately spit them back out. We fished in depths from 6-15 feet with different colors, sizes and presentations and just never could key in on any one thing that worked consistently. We did receive a visit from the fish warden while there and while I was walking to the restroom to take care of business I watched him loading up several confiscated rods and bait from the group to the south of us. I'm sure it was a sucky day for them and I'm glad we did not have any bait in our possession while there. There is still 16 inches of solid ice with nearly 10 inches of heavy wet slush on top so it made for a long trek pulling sleds from one end of the lake to the other. Deep snow drifts (some waist high) prevented us from driving our truck closer at the end of the day.

Have never understood why it is so hard to read the regs and follow the rules.

GT,

Reading the regs and knowing what they say doesn't always help, but it is sure a good idea.

We were put under great scrutiny on Saturday and Brownlee and we all feared we were going to be cited before it was all over. Luckily we got off with a verbal warning before the fish cop left and he told us to move. Yesterday, the same fish cop called us all and said he finally decided that we were doing nothing wrong.

Duh.......... We already knew that. [Wink]
What was he after you for at Brownlee? Just the fact that you were on the Ice, or a light or something else?

Moving to a new thread so we don't hijack this one. See "Interesting day at Brownlee".
Ever thought of Chironomids in maybe a #12 or #14?

The last three trips up there I have done exactly that. I have a version that I tied up last year using some new materials that ironically enough I named the daniels because it was the first body of water that I fished with it on. It was a killer pattern last year both in Idaho and in Utah through the ice and open water. This year however it wouldn't produce any bites in Idaho. I tried both sizes and several different colors, under a flasher, by itself etc.. and it just has not produced at all.
