Anybody know how the water is in farleys this year ? Or how the camping is. My son returns from his mission in late May, and has indicated he wants to head to lake powell.

Maybe you already know this, but there is Lake level information links on the "wayneswords" website for Powell. The current level is 3577, down about 25 feet from last Feb 2013.
Also, it is getting down to the lowest its been since 2004 at 3560.
If you have been to Farleys before, then you can compare conditions by looking back at the historical lake level data provided by the Lake level link.
Good luck.

I have not been to farleys before , and my wife does not want to camp at any of the marinas, We will be needing a drive in camp area, But I would like to be where I can get some fishing done. I am also wondering what the water clarity will be there in early may. I have fished the area in the past (the 80's) But we fished from the old hite and went up stream back then.

The only camping I've done has been loading up the boat and driving out from Bullfrog marina to somewhere close, and primitive camping.
Hopefully someone that has camped at Farleys can chime in. Good luck and have a good time.

I am a white and farleys adict. I fish them regularly... Well I used too, but they're no deeper than 20 or so feet( farleys will be more or less dry) and that shallow plus May equalls chocolate milk water conditions. The lake pretty much starts right at the mouth of farleys. They have sure been dynamite up until now though.

Powell is now at it's lowest levels since 1970. However snowpack in it's drainage is at 116% as of last week. Water levels could go up 50 ft between now and May. Too early to know how it will play out but I wouldn't cross it off your list yet. I'd ask again come April. Farleys is a great place for primitive camping if it works out.

Nevada is going to dump it 150 feet that's the word to fill mead up..

The confluence at Farley's and White Canyon is reported to be river current at this time. Powell is still going down. Access to the lake would be risky at best. There appears to be no boat launching north of Bullfrog. Primitive camping is available at Stanton Creek just inside the park when entering to Bullfrog.

It was lower than this in 2005 was it not?

Yes Lake Powell was lower in 2005. At the current rate of drop at 1 foot per week until late May before the runoff starts, Hite and Farley will be a view of the Colorado river. When the runoff starts that area will be a wall of mud and debris making it difficult for fishing through June and possibly July. wayneswords.com provides daily updates on fishing success, water levels, and general lake status. May is considered to be one of the best months for fishing LP however.

My mistake, it was lower in both 2004 and 2005. The water level website gives some misleading info- today it says the last time it was within 2 inches of current level was 2004 and yesterday it said 1970 for that level. The lowest in 2005 seems to be 3555 ft in April and it rose over 50 ft that year so obviously the last time water levels were within 2 inches of current 3576 was 2005. It won't continue to drop all that much more and certainly not until late May. If the good snowpack continues it will be filling long before then. Back in 2005 the nadir appears to have been April 8 and water levels were up 40 ft by the end of May. Like I said don't cross it off your list quite yet- only time will tell.

In mid November Farley and White were both still accessible by boat -- for those brave enough to attempt.
We did NOT attempt to get into Farley. We did make it through the debris field to White -- but didn't stay long.
there is a sandbar developing at the mouth of Farley. Since November, the lake had dropped more, and I would not be surprised to find Farley cut off from the rest of lake Powell. If this is the case, then water clarity could actually be good this spring! But if the lake level rises enough to once again enter Farley, I would imagine that debris and water clarity would be a very bad problem.
As much as I like that area, I think I would recommend to drive a little further and head down the Blue Notch road and hit the Good Hope (Blue Notch, Red Canyon) area.

Thanks for the info. I love fishing powell anytime, But have not made it the last few years. How is the road access and camping in the blue knotch, red canyon area? any pit toilets ect... Is 4x4 required. How far up lake is this area from the bullfrog launch, or halls crossing?
Thanks lonnie

Blue Notch is completely primitive. 4x4 road. Dispersed camping wherever you can. Only toilets are the floating toilets in Good Hope bay.
Good Hope Bay begins at about buoy 119. It is about 25 miles from Bull Frog. Blue Notch and Red Canyon area at the northern end of Good Hope. So, you're looking at 30 miles (by water) from Bull Frog to Blue Notch / Red Canyon.
