I am looking at going to Strawberry in the camper for a couple nights before the next storm hits. How are the access roads into the parking lot areas like the Ladders or Chicken Creek East & West? Have they been plowed? Don't want to get stuck. Stuck sucks! Thanks!

Last Monday the road to the marina was two wheel drive the lot was a little bumpy from refrozen slush the lake access was good and hard.

[#800000]I'm heading up to the marina area in the AM. I'll have a report posted after I get back. I called the marina this am and they said there is about 20" of ice and good access there. The slush freezes down at night and gets a little soft in the afternoon. He recommended to NOT trying to use a quad but snowmobiles will work fine.

I was at the Ladders last Friday and the road in and the parking lot were plowed and snowpacked. We used 2 wheel drive in and out. It was 10 degrees when we parked and 28 when we left.

Thanks to all for the road conditions updates. Sounds like access is good, ice is good. Fish??? Well that is yet to be seen. MRJ.

Fishing was kind of slow sunday, but still had a great time. Probably caught 4 cuts, and 4 bows all day. We fished straight out from strawberry marina. This is one my daughter caught.

My wife and I drove up Saturday morning arriving at the marina at 6:30 am. Temp was 4 degrees. Sky was mostly clear. We ran the snowmobile across the lake to our favorite bay. Ice was over 30 inches thick. I almost ran out of auger. No slush anywhere we were. I drilled 2 holes and we fished the same two holes until 9:50 am at which time we packed it up and came home. We fished for a total of just under 2 hrs and ended up with 3 rainbow and 19 cuts. Fishing was really hot until about 9 am at which time it slowed down. My wife out fished me icing 12 and I ended up icing 10. The wind came up and with the breeze and the cold temps, we decided we had caught enough and headed down to Heber to have lunch at Dicky's. We arrived at Dicky's at 11:30 and beat the lunch bunch. As we left the Marina, the temp had risen to 24. Scouts were everywhere camping out. There must have been half a dozen or so troop's scattered around. All in all it was a great day. Access everywhere we were was very good.
Here is a link showing the depth of the ice.

Kevin, that snowmobile would have been nice when we fished Electric Lake many moons ago.[

What about the road to renegade is that good for a quad?
Hello all. Newbie here. We fished the narrows area via snowmobiles on Saturday the 22nd. Had poles in the water at 5 am and left about noon. It was a great day. I put 28 on the ice while my buddy got 33 and his son 22. Most were cutts in the slot. Didnt keep any cutts but did keep a couple bows that were tasty. Only caught one kookanee. Had a huge fish to the hole and broke my 6 lb leader off. It was a fine day to be fishing. Ice was great but it got kinda windy as we left.

Kent,
you are right. A few years have passed since then. I sure enjoy it's use now. We are able to get to areas we only dreamed of back then. I've had the machine for 3 winters now and have put just a little over 100 miles on it since we purchased it. I have sure enjoyed going with my wife. She won't let me get out without her.

Welcome and thanks for posting. Sounds like you had a great day. Would be nice to have a snowmobile. Maybe some day.

Where do you camp if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone know how much snow is on the ice, to run a quad on it from the marina to renegade?
Is it legal to camp on the ice?

I was there today and the answer is no. I also would be leery of driving a quad onto the ice. The slush mostly froze up, there are pockets still and the top got a little soft in the afternoon. If you hit a soft pocket, it might be tough going for you.
Foot traffic and snowmobiles were doing fine today.

...goddess... most of the scouts were camping in the parking lot at the Marina. One troop dug into the snow bank and made a snow cave to sleep in. I know of one troop that camped on the ice at Chicken Creek East. Most people setup in any of the parking lots.
Last saturday, there was 1/2 inch or less of snow on the ice. The slush was frozen solid... i.e. there was no slush. I don't know about the current conditions. With the snow depth, although the road is groomed, it could be deep. There is no place to park along the road and the signs say no parking on road side. But... signs are only for those who can read. We parked at the Marina so we were in compliance. It is a long ride back to the road from the Marina, so we rode across the lake. A lot shorter distance.

I am aware of the areas to camp on the Marina road, but the OP said CCE or Ladder. The signs say no overnight camping in those two parking lots. Does this not apply to winter? And what is the snow condition of the camp sites on the other side of the road in that area where hunters camp?

[#800000]Two of us went to Strawberry on Tuesday. We arrived at the SB Marina at about 8:30 AM and the temp was 6 degrees. We launched at 9:00 and went about 1/4 east. There are NO shoreline gaps at Strawberry currently. The ice cap is about 8 -10 inches of solidly frozen slush on top of a 4 - 5 inch gap (probably water) followed by another 8-10 inches of clear ice. About 11 AM we headed over to the south side of the marina bay and fished off the east most point (where you turn south to go to Renegade). Same ice conditions there. There was a big quad already there that came across from the marina. We saw dozens of non-fishing people riding snowmobiles across the bay all day long.[/#800000]

[#800000]The fishing was slow but we managed to ice about 15 at the second spot. We kept one cut below the slot and 2 chunky bows. It was a beautiful day to be out with only slight breezes in the afternoon and severe clear skies all day. The temp had gotten to about 40 when we left the marina lot at 4 PM.[/#800000]

[#800000]If Strawberry only gets snow over the next week or so instead of the rain that we are going to be getting down here along the Wasatch Front, then conditions shouldn't change very much at all. But a wise person would be calling the marina for conditions on the afternoon BEFORE making a trip up there. The phone number is (435) 548-2261.[/#800000]
