I truly feel robbed of part of our ice fishing season. Where is all of this warm weather coming from? I went over to a ice fishing spot, and there was still ice but I could see lots of blue under it and open water close. No way I am going out on that! So I grabbed a spinning rod and hit below the Gem Lake dam. In five casts I got four hits and land two Browns over 20 inches. Here is a video of one of them. I love it below Gem Lake Dam. I saw what I assume is a Carp swimming in there one day, just under the surface and had to be 3 feet long. Haven't caught any Browns yet, but we've caught a few others on rapalas and had a blast.
I also stopped by there one stormy day when the gates were open and it was scary to see how much water can roar through there. Although I hear it is fun once the water stops to go check the holes for trapped fish.
Looks like you had a good time, but I'm also a little

the ice is going away and I was too sick or busy to get out much the past 2 months.

The ice can go away and come back next year I am ready to hit the water in my pontoon. Ron

Keep your fingers crossed. Their still might be a storm or two. We can sure use the moisture. From some where.

I'm quite disappointed myself about all this warm weather & how it's been so damn windy which i HATE worth a passion cause not only it's miserable to be in but it screws up my fishing & it melts the ice much faster than it does when it's just warm but calm. Wish we would of gotten in on some of that arctic air the mid & eastern part of the US keeps hoggin up, pretty upset about having to take my ice hut home & give up ice fishing so early in the year when I normally can keep my ice hut on the lake till usually mid March, sometimes late March [

One man's trash is another man's treasure? I haven't fished in nearly 6 months, and I can barely contain myself as I await open water!

I kept myself distracted from my misery by doing some serious repairs to our camper in preparation for the boating timE. Replaced the ceiling and put in "real" insulation in the overshot, bed area and other tinkerings. Helped me handle the windy Saturdays and No Ice days.

I'm with you, these guys are nuts. Arctic air can go bugger off. Bring on some more days like yesterday!

I am mainly a soft water fisherman too, but I actually made it out 8 times this year, have the auger and quickfish 3 (used once) and some other gear that I was really hoping to use at least a few times more. Then my wife and I caught that cold/flu that makes you think you are dying. It was miserable, and it foiled my attempts at getting to Lowell before the ice melted.
Warm water and weather will be nice also, but there will be a little time between ice off and when I want to take the pontoon boat out in water that is still freezing.

No water, snow or ice? In the forecast. I keep waiting.
Maybe, you and the Pelicans will find open water.
I'm sure they wait it out. Too...
Never seen a Pelican in the winter.
They also wait 6 month's for Open water..
One man's trash.

I might get into ice fishing, but for the sake of my marriage I forebear. Given how much I fish when it's warm, I'm not sure my wife would stick around if I did it all year long. [fishin]
I'm choosing my battles.

Over here on the east side we're looking a lot better on water (110% snow pack for the Bear River Drainage) with several days of mountain snow in the forecast. Those pelicans aren't going to find too much this year I don't think.
I'm in the same boat as Pharticus, I'd likely become a single man again if I took up ice fishing.
