I received terrible news last night. BFT member and avid contributor Dominic Elcox/steelheadkid passed away in his sleep at his home in Salmon Idaho Tuesday night.

Steelheadkid had his spats and disagreements with members on the site but I think we can all agree that his knowledge of steelhead fishing and his eagerness to help fellow members will be missed by all of us.

At 27 years old Dom had more knowledge of Idaho steelhead and salmon than anybody I've ever met and he was always willing to share info with me when I had questions.

See you on that big river someday bud! Tight lines and RIP Steelheadkid.

All it takes is a few minutes scanning over the outpour on his facebook page to get an idea for what kind of person he was, but if you hadn't already figured that out on your own, then you have definitely missed out.

I can only hope that when I am gone, that I may have positively impacted the lives of half as many people as he did. What an example.

I have only known him a few years, but I am awful thankful for the time that I did. I was looking forward to many more years, and still having a hard time accepting that it ain't going to be happening anytime soon.

Definitely a Sad day in the salmon and steelhead fishing community, as he was one of our truest and finest members.

I feel privileged to have been friends and fish with Dom while we were going to school in Northern Idaho. He had a sixth sense when it came to steelhead. Dom was able to pick up on the slightest nuances in steelhead behavior. He knew how to use this knowledge and 10 times out of 10 would out fish the best of them.

Dom accomplished what all of us dream of. Taking this hobby, passion, obsession, or whatever you want to call fishing and turned it into a way of life. If I could accomplish half of what STEELHEADKID has in this sport I will have finally made it to the top tier.

I will always remember him as he would want to be remembered. A true steelhead LEGEND.

I got to fish with him once when he first moved to Salmon. Dude was an amazing steelhead fisherman. He taught me some pretty good tips and I've been fishing for these metal heads for years. He will be missed. R.I.P. Dominic

I'm so sorry to hear this. I really enjoyed his posts and learned a lot from him. This reminds me of one of my favorite sports/life quotes. "We are all listed on the roster as day to day."

Sad news indeed. Sorry to hear it, glad he enjoyed his time, and found success in his pursuits. May we all be able to say that the grim reaper comes knocking.

Wow that caught me off guard. I am so sorry to hear this. I used to give him a hard time by saying I would use Steelhead or Salmon for catfish bait. It was all just good nature'd ribbing. I went to his FB page to see what happened but I didn't see anything. Does anyone know what happened? Ron

I havn't heard anything officially yet. I do know he was having some insomnia issues for a couple weeks just before though.

Steelheadkid,

His post were the most informative. And, if you took the time to chat with Man. PM style. The man's knowledge was second to none!!! You are truly missed. May you be in a better place.

This is very Sad news; way too young. He was definitely a Pro. Informative, educating posts. His obit in the Idaho Press Tribune says nothing about cause, just that he passed away February 26th at his home.
