Where are your favorite places to fly fish for carp? I have fished utah lake for them with some success, but is there any better places? I wish we had the flats they have in the great lakes, etc. I have been looking for places to fish for them for a while without a whole lot of luck.

Ther are several folks on here that will probably chime in since they like to target carp.
I am more than likely going to pick up carp fishing after seeing what happens her where I live (see attachment)

Those are fat pigs. Do they release them instead of mercy killing them like they do the trout?
Sorry, Envenomation09, I was a little off topic. Seems like most of the lakes that have flats get as muddy as UL. You might try some of the community ponds in the spring, or some place like Yuba. I know that FG fishes the Jordan as it is close to her. Seems like there are a lot of places that hold them, just depends on what you are looking for.
You can come to Idaho and fish for them at either the flats on Alexander or Blackfoot, but please remove all that you catch!

Envenom, also take a look at the marshes, like cutler, benson, and Willard.
Cpierce, Karpfen or Carp, are catch and release in most, but not all places

So true. I know in England, Europe they are a prized game fish, not the dreaded pond scum we consider them to be. But they chum too, and use live bait for pike fishing.
Boilies!
I think you named a good few, Bear river, Cutler have many locations they
'll school in a pool. Along the shore at Willard, find areas the wind blows against the shore, they like to slurp through the surface scum. But they are very wary, not stupid fish as we'd assume. Very sensitive mouths too.
But they're heads are bricks, hard as a rock, at least that's what it seems to take to dispatch.
[#0000FF]Deer Creek has plenty of surface cruisers that are about as spooky as brown trout. But if you get out early in the morning...while they are surface slurping...you can find some takers. Later in the day they sometimes cruise near shore. And when the water levels are up the "flats" between the island and Charleston can show you some fish.
For some of the best "clean water" carp on a flyrod you should hit Starvation. The Rabbit Gulch area has large areas of "flats" with weed growth and plenty of carp. They also get to be real tanks and can put a serious bend in your stick. Oh yeah, if you get tired of carp there are lotsa nice rainbows in the same area.
There are a couple of areas on Utah Lake that are probably best for chasing carp on shallow presentations. First is the shallow weedy area just north of Lindon Harbor...where Battle Creek comes in...just off the waste transfer station. Second is the big shallow flats area just south of the boat channel dikes at Lincoln Beach. Almost always carp either on the surface or cruising the shallows in less than 3 feet of water.

I agree with TD. Starvation in the evening was the first Carp I hooked on a fly. A little too much for the gear I was using (four weight) as it took forever to bring it to shore in which a couple trips across the rocks and it was free.
Deer Creek will be my target this year. They are thick and rolling in the grassy area. A little hard to get to them with all the grass and 2' of water, so I literally bought a Fuzion DST for this reason. Plan on bow hunting for them as well.
The Jordan has been wonderful this winter, but they are not visible. It is more challenging to find them but they are there.
Note my Avatar, it's what I do...LOL

[#0000FF]Remember this trip...when I introduced you to the carp family at Lincoln Beach?

Last year up at PV we were spring crappie fishing and went into the back of a cove/flat and there were hundreds of big carp rolling in the shallows, they were more than willing to chase a fly, fun stuff for sure.

Yes you did. One day I will get back there. Jazzy, I have caught them there at PV as well. Being a water skier, I remember big ones swimming by. They were HUGE.
Tube Dude, we also went to Willard after Crappy and I got side tracked there too..LOL
Going out to the river for an hour or two this morning.
Wish me Carp[

[#0000FF]May the carp be with you.
Yeah, I neglected to mention either Pineview or Willard in my brief list. Willard almost always has a few surface cruisers...and some of them are MONGO.
Back in the days when I swung a long skinny stick more often I got a big mirror carp in Willard on a small chartreuse nymph I had been fishing for crappies. I was using a 9' 6 weight rod with 4# tippit. That big honker kept running to the end of my minimal backing and I was roostertailing all over the lake with the rod back over my shoulder, trying to catch up with it.
Yeah, it was "only" a carp but that epic battle is still up there with the best I have ever enjoyed. Sorry to say but I kept it to weigh it. Tipped the scales at just under 25#. Only one I ever got that was bigger I stuck with an arrow near the mouth of the Provo River...right at 30#.

Caught a few of them but I don't think I have ever put 4lb on a 6 wt.[crazy]
Caught about 6 this morning on a 9' 6wt. 8 lb P-Line That new Magnum Sharkskin line is insane!!!!

PV is outstanding for chasing tail it is one of my favorite spots because the water is clear and the flats seem to go for ever!!! You can spot them all over not just tails but when you have high sun you can see there gorgeous scales giving you that little glint that says take you best shot.
Hope to see you up there this next carp session. You ever need a fishing partner send me a IM

Anyone here chase them out on Bear Lake? I have heard of them there on the south end. I have never seen a mention of it here.

I would think people go to the Bear for Lakers. I know I would and I am a carpaholic.

I don't know if you live in the SL Valley or how close to Murray but, you can give Murray Park a try. There's some bruisers in there and they're everywhere!

Where at TM? Any particular fly?
