Headed up to the Soldier Creek Side of Strawberry today. Arrived around 7:30 a.m. Ended up catching 32 fish - 1 koke, 6 rainbows, 1 cutt > 22 inches & the balance slott cutts. (Ended up catching a Strawberry mini slam with all three type of fish & one cutt over 22-inches. I think this is my first - see photo)
Fishing was fairly fast from the time I started until 10:00 a.m., then it slowed down. It picked up again between noon and 1:00 p.m. Caught all fish with various colors of cutter bugs - color did not seem to matter today. I was fishing in 23 feet of water and the fish were caught throughout the water column.
The first fish caught was the Koke (16-inches, 1 lbs 8 oz) on a pink cutterbug, 10 feet below the ice tipped with a worm & dead sticked - go figure!
The larger cutt was caught during the noon frenzy. Saw a lot of larger fish moving around after noon on the camera. Had a couple, what appeared to be, wall hangers come through and nose my jigs; however, never opened their mouths & swam off.
The reservoir ice was perfect - maybe 2 inches of snow covering 20-inches of ice. It was a nice spring day, stripped down to my long sleeve T-shirt. I believe I was the only one fishing the Soldier Creek side today, never saw another person. Could life be any better?
I will have to work on getting a Strawberry grand slam - with bigger fish.
