One of the best things that I like about CFF is that I get to meet and fish with some many new friends. Today was just such a day. Amateur had pm'd me a few weeks ago and asked me if I would take him fishing. He said that Polo-dog had taken him a couple of times and showed him some docks and how to shoot them. He wanted to expand his education a little bit. I don't know if we were able to expand it very much today considering the water temps had fallen back into the 40's after being in the mid to high 50's last week. But we tried.

But our first stop, we were able to put 3 keepers in the box and one throwback sized crappie. I didn't intend to stay on this spot very long because I wanted to show him several places to fish with his 3 sons, ages 4-12. I ran to a dock that had yielded 20 crappie last week, but today, nada. So, we started scanning shallow coves and docks. I wasn't seeing any fish shallow today. So, finally after an hour or so of fruitless looking, we ran back to our original spot and caught a couple more.

Then on to other docks that were a little deeper. Still couldn't find any fish. So, I told him at the last that I would take him to an off-shore structure, but I didn't have a lot of confidence in this spot as it hasn't had any fish on it lately. But maybe the colder weather had driven the fish back out of the shallows because we saw a ton of fish on this spot. At least 2 huge schools of crappie.

Hindsight being 20/20, I should have gone to this place first during the major feeding period. Instead, we got there about 2 hours past peak, but still managed to land enough keepers to give Dillon's family a good crappie meal. He had to go back to work, so we stopped for the day at 3:00 PM.

Lures: Bobby Garland, Full Moon, Outlaw Special, Electric Chicken, Key Lime Pie. Strike King: Shadpole Glimmer Blue with a tail light.
Water temp. 49.1 at 3:00 pm. 48.0 when we started at 11:30.
Water depth where fish were active: 15' plus/minus a couple of feet.
Presentation: Dead sticking with occasional "palsy" twitch.
Biggest fish: 12.25" Black Crappie
Total caught: 11 fish 10" or more. 4 or 5 fish in the 9" range.

I had a great time with you today, Dillon. Fellowship was especially good. I can tell from talking to you that your boys have a wonderful Father. I like that you are spending quality time with each and every one of them. We will do this again if you want to go. Let the water warm up a little and we will load the boat. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
