I fished Huntington North today from my kick boat. The ice is completely gone and the water temp was 42-43 degrees. I fished from 10:00 until 1:00 and caught two 12" rainbows and two 18" rainbows. I used a fast sinking line (#7) and size 4-6 bead head olive leeches to catch them. I had a few other fish on, but not many. The reservoir is full and the visibility in the water was about10'-12'. I was hoping to hook a wiper but not this trip. Fishing was slow but the weather was great for the first week in March.[fishin]

I'm guessing by the lack of interest in my post about Huntington North that not many people have ever tried flyfishing there. I only fish it from ice out until Memorial Day and again in the fall until it freezes over. The reservoir contains rainbows, browns, wipers, largemouth bass, bluegill, & some chubs. This time of year trout is the main catch. In another month the wipers will start to show up, then the bass and bluegill. The power squadron takes over after the water warms so don't go during the summer. I fished it again on Monday and did a little better than I did on Saturday. Water temperature was 44 degrees so it still pretty slow. [fishin]

I think it's cool!

Some nice looking fish there, I might have to make the trek over the mountain to try it out.

Thanks for the post,
I've always wanted to try fishing there.

Looks good. Nice pics.

If I had the money or if someone would take me there I'd love to fly fish that reservoir big time. [angelic]

Nice pictures man keep it up [angelic].

Thanks for the comments.
It's unfortunate that most of our decisions on where to fish are based on how much it will cost to get there and back. On the up side though is the fact that Utah has so many options that in most cases we can stay close to home and still find good fishing.[Smile]

OK you've piqued my interest. So is it the reservoir next to the town or the one up in the mountains by Cleveland Reservoir and Electric Lake? Do you drive through Fairview and via Price?

This is the Huntington State Park reservoir just north of the town of Huntington. The reservoir is a little over 225 surface acres with an average depth of about 25'. The Huntington Reservoir up the canyon usually is ice bound until Memorial Day on most years.

I'm glad I piqued your interest. Sometimes we get locked in to places that we are familiar with and overlook others. I try each year to fish at least five new waters in our state. I've been doing that for a lot of years and I haven't come close to getting to all of them yet.[fishin] By the way, that doesn't mean I have caught fish out them, just that I fished them.[Wink]
