I bought a fishing kayak this winter and have been dying to get it out on the water to actually try it out. I decided that Lake Lowell would be a great place to try it out. When I get there Canyon County Sheriff's office was working on the boat ramp so they let me back my truck down to put my yak in the water. I took it out of the truck and went to park it. When I was walking down to the wate I noticed a Deputy looking over my craft.

He approached me and we met about half way up the ramp and he asked me if I had an invasive species sticker. I said I did not and that I did not realize I needed one. The Deputy was awesome. He told me I did and said that I could run to the Cheveron off of Iowa to get one. I have never owned a boat or anything like it so I had no idea. I was dreading hauling the yak back up the ramp cause by this time they had put the barriers back up to block it. The Deputy told me that if I went straight to the Cheveron and pcke up my sticker he would watch my gear unitl I got back. Went and paid the $7 and came right back.

Lesson: Make sure you know all the regs lol. Whoops my bad. Thank God it did not get me a ticket and cost me an arm and a leg.

Question: Where does the money go that you pay for the invasive species sticker go? Kinda weird to me that you put these things on there but no one really checks the water craft.

I am surprised that they exempt inflatables under 10 foot. Pontoon without motors and float tubes don't need them. Did he tell you about the area closer for lake lowell? I took my tube there once before the opening day and was talked to about staying within 200 yards of the dam. they were good about it but I was in the boundary. Ron

I think at least some of the money goes to fund people checking boats. They do actually check boats, but mainly at state entry locations, watching for people bring in stuff from out-of-state.
There was a news story on KTVB just a week or 2 ago about a boat being stopped that was infested, coming from Lake Powell. It's staffed by Idaho Dept of Ag people.

Yeah they gave me heads up on the 200 yds from the damn rule too. I knew about that rule but did not understand how much they enforced it. kinda glad the Deputy was out there to give me heads up before I got out there and got myself a ticket.

Being new to the boating/kayak scene this is all new to me. I dont want to get in trouble just wnat to go slay some fish.
