I haven't found anything official from the internet yet but this is word for word from the Lewiston Tribune this morning.

Idaho anglers will be able to fish for spring chinook seven days a week when the salmon fishing season kicks off on April 26.

On Thursday, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved spring chinook fishing on the Clearwater River and it's north, south and middle forks, plus the Lochsa, the lower salmon, the little salmon and snake river in hells canyon from dug bar to hells canyon dam.

The daily bag limit for the Clearwater river and its north and middle forks and Lochsa river will be four hatchery chinook per day, but only one of them can be an adult. On the southfork of the Clearwater, anglers will be allowed to keep two hatchery adults per day in the four fish bag limit.

The Big Eddy Hole on the Clearwater River will be closed to boat anglers, but open to fishing from the bank. (I didn't feel the need to type the reasons they listed as to why.)

The lower salmon river, little salmon river and the snake river in hells canyon will have a limit of four hatchery chinook per day, with a maximum of two adults in the bag. The lower salmon will be open from rice creek bridge to shorts creek and the little salmon will be open from its mouth to smokey boulder road.

Based on the latest forecast, 33,800 wild spring chinook and 46,700 hatchery chinook are expected to return at least as far as lower granit dam on the snake river. Idaho is is expected to have a harvest share of 4,800 hatchery spring chinook on the Clearwater and it's tributaries, 5,900 on the lower salmon and little salmon rivers and 700 on the snake river in hells canyon.

While much of Alaska is expected to have poor runs of Kings this year most of the Northwest is expecting tremendous runs. You'd have to look for details to see what the forecast is for various places in Idaho. Give it a try either in Idaho or to the West this year if you're ever going to do it. Few things in fishing beat the rush of hooking into a 4 foot king.

Matt when they get here I will get ahold of you. I told you last year I would help you out. Let's make it happen this year.

So how long do you think, until people are catching fish?

Yeah it's all confirmed by fish and game, just wish they would have started with a 2 fish limit in the Clearwater drainage and reduced it if need be. Oh well, be a blast anyways, can't wait!

they have opened it up to 2 fish a day right off the bat before. it very quickly gets reduced to 1 every time. how ever the years its starts as 1 they have always bumped it up to 2 or 3 a day. pretty weird if you ask me.

Is there any guides on the Clearwater you would recommend ?

Toby Wyatt's "Reel Time Fishing" employees some of the best guides working the Clearwater and Snake Rivers. Jeff Jarret out of Orofino has his own guide service and is another good bet. Jason Schulz Hells Canyon Guide Service is another proven service. I've been fishing up there for years and got to know most of them. No doubt in my mind that any of them will fit your needs.
