Had a couple of generous offers from Riverdog and Kochanut to borrow rods for a Sept. Florida trip, but figured I better grab my own. I will be fishing the surf from the beach for spawning Snook and whatever also wants to dance.

I had been looking at several rods in the $160-$220 range and had been eyeing a Cabelas TLr Saltwater rod in that range, good reviews so it was in the mix, well they went on sale last week $160 to $119...not passing that up, arrived yesterday, nice fit and finish, a really nice Blue blank with dark Blue wraps, 4 piece carry on rod...I added a Cabela's 9/10 RLs+ reel as it was on sale also, great looking machined reel, drag is smooth as butter! Pretty impressed with this set up so far, will be loaded with either a sink tip or intermediate line.

Sweet deal. Hopefully you'll get a chance to use that a lot in the future.

Ya, I am looking forward to using it brother!

That'll work. Why a 9 for snook though? I'd take a 7 with you too, you might like that for most snook.

9 for whatever swims, will have a few other weights but relegated to beach this trip, may need some more punch, we'll see [Wink]

Only once have I felt helpless with a 8 wt. But you know now that I have a 9 wt I'll probable never need it. Oh well good to have along just in case as I'll never get over the serial whooping I took one afternoon.

Checked out that rod last week at Cabelas, felt reel stiff just picking it up on the rack. Let me know how it does casting. Wouldn't mind adding some different weights to my collection.

Will do, it's a moderate-fast action, will feel stiff if you're used to fast action and without line feels even stiffer.
