Not much to report, didn't make a full on photo essay. Think my "gas light" coming on gave me the spooks, so I cut my venturing short, but had to at least find a spot to pitch a TGI-Friday line. Checked on some minners, but only found a few bitty fatheads.

Parked it next to another river spot, pitched some favorite bait, and ping ping - wasn't long before my bells were ringing. Danged yeller-bellies! But the skunk was chased away, and then bigger fish did come to play.

Had a lot more pings and pops than hookups, but this 23inch fattie gave me a good play - though she INSISTED on thoroughly wrapping up my bobber line, made a fine messed up tangle before flopping ashore for a righteous tumble in the mud.

Bit of rain came to play as the sun went away. My fingers were numb, so I called the day done. And I headed on home to the pup.
Great job! I need to get up the telhere and try it.

I woke up yesterday with a good feeling about fishing last night. It ended up being towards my girlfriend because she caught her first fish ever, 9lb carp. Me on the other hand, skunked. Glad to see someone caught a cat last night.

Springbuck - they're out there, and they got the feed bags slapped on. The drop down doesn't seem to have phased 'em too much. Cats are pretty hardy.

Nice getting your lil' lady onto some fish. Hope she's hooked (not literally!). Carp may be despised by some, reviled by others, loved by a few - but they do make some fun game-fish, even though they are not. Reason Skunked calls em our fresh-water Golden Tarpon!

Wish the weather would be more cooperative.
Good one yote! I'm heading out in a few minutes to try my luck also. It's my 44th b-day today and I think I NEED to fish to chase away the midlife crisis that is welling up in me today! Cache Valley is callin'! Crap, I don't even care if it downpours on me, better than sitting here!

We're you in current or slack water? I'll have the kids again today with me so I'll be wrangling from shore.

Hope the day treats you well. Both for fishing and birthday wishing. There was some current, but it was a pretty wide swath of river where I was at, so not moving a whole lot. The fish were in a very tidy mood, they did a good job of keeping my hook clean! Peckers! Just weren't really in the mood to take the shimpies and run. I missed a lot of opportunities waiting for that second nip.

Maybe the kids'll be kind and let you catch some this time! Look forward to a report. A great report would be even better!

If it weren't for Apr 15th looming, I'd have headed out this afternoon. Skies opened up purdy good. But if I get my homework done, maybe tomorrow.

This is how I managed my mid-life crisis. Seemed safer than a crotch-rocket!

Well, the mudcats were good, but I missed a couple of hard tugs. Still felt good though. Made for my favorite type of birthday celebration!

Good grief, I can't believe you solution to a midlife crissis was the same as mine. I took up mandolins and banjo about 6-7 years ago, it makes a great stress relief for me.

Hey Yote, glad you kept the kitties company. I've been up chasing steelheads. Got a big sucker, and a white fish. Fun trip but pretty tired. Later J

Exploring my Scottish roots by teaching myself Irish Fiddle Tunes, [crazy] and got to 'preciating Bluegrass on a whole new level.

Maybe sometime once the bugs come out to play, might oughta consider a night trip, sit around a campfire, and wait for the glow sticks to bounce, or bells to jingle. And if they fish ain't entertaining - a little fire-side picking could be in order.

Ben and Andy and I took an overnight adventure up Cutler canyon last summer. The fishing wasn't so hot, but the food and company were great.

I believe I believe FISHINMA was up that way chasing Chrome too. Another something I gotta try some day. Hope you kept some of that sucker - they make for great Catfish bait. I'll be watching for their spawn this year no doubt.
Sounds like a mighty fun and fine idea to me!
My Scottish roots got me into the fiddle over 34 years ago, my redneck roots got me into the banjo and to keep the peace between the two factions, I took up mandolin. Fun stuff.

Yup I kept that sucker, we'll see if it works. Sure was fun, I really thought it was a steelie, it took it and headed straight into the current, had a great battle, can't tell ya how disappointed I was when I got it in. Kind of slow for the Steelies this year, we only seen one almost caught but the guide botched the netting and lost it for the gal that had put up quite the battle. Didn't see a fish moving in the river and we pretty much sight fish so it was slow, but fun trip. Later J

I think one of these summer nights, we should set the cat contest aside and pull an all together BFT all nighter. I'd love to give the bear river a go, I just couldn't live with myself breaking the cat record on your dirty northern waters and show my face unless there was some sort of agreement.

Dirty northern waters he says! Haha

That's ok, you needn't worry, Northern cats don't bite for Southerners. Something about the accent. Kinda like Drop Bears waaaay down south. Click the pic for the story.

I've actually wondered about proposing a gathering. What I've seen of UL camping areas - I'd be a bit wary (thinking of TBD's flaming camper video).
But Willard is kinda central-ish, and they gots kitties there.

I could see opening up a one-day exception, or maybe a weekend side-tourney? I know they have Wiper tourneys there, but I know nothing about organizing such an event.

Maybe we could share a catfish cookoff. Could be too complicated to worry about competitive fishing and fish prep all in one go. I've got a smoker that ain't tied down. Lots of shelves. Maybe if someone has one of them Propane turkey exploders. I have an electric one, though they've got hookups.
Sounds good to me. Let's figure something out. Probably want to wait til May or June if we're gonna do an over nighter. I'd love to try some smoked kitty, never had it before.
