We fished the Castle tx out of mcp. We started out down river throwing jerkbaits and caught a 4lbder pretty quick, so we was thinking we were going to have a good day, but that ended up being our only keeper. we did catch around 15 slicks, most were caught on rip rap with a kvd 2.5 in chart. black back and a red bandit crankbait. The rest, including the one keeper was caught along a bank,in 2-4 ftw, with a lot of stumps and laydowns, leading onto a spawning flat, on a gold jekbait and the kvd crankbait.
I don't understand why we were unable to get into more keepers, we fished points leading up to spawning areas, the first drop off near spawning flats, road beds going onto spawning areas, rock bluffs, flats and rip rap. we fished from 2ftw to 14ftw. we fished cranks, jerkbaits, jigs, lizards, small worms, brushhogs and Kenny even threw the rig some. I really struggle this time of year and would appreciate anyone that would tell me what were doing wrong or any tips on how to locate the bigger fish. But the bright side is that the water is warming and the grass will be coming up soon. water temp was 58 when we started and 62 around 2pm.
I want to thank Jody for putting on such a great tx, and also thanks to Carl Reed and everyone that helps it run smoothly. If you have not fished this tx before you need to next year, it is one of the best tx you can fish.
