Had the chance to finally get out on the ice today. We really got our butts kicked. We fished over by the dam, in about 18 feet of water, and we only landed 3 fish. The few bites that we did get were incredibly soft, thank goodness for strike indicators, or we never would have gotten any. Didn' mark many fish on the finder either. We did drive around by the island, and it looked like there were 20-30 people fishing in that area. I sure hope they did better than us.
I hope it improves for all the BFTers headed out this weekend.

Me and some buddies also went to Schofield today. We went past the damn and fished off the east side about 100+ yards out. There were three of us and we landed 24 fish. Most were small but we did land a couple 2 pounders. Black jigs with green tails seemed to work best. We tipped them with a worm chunk and green power bait. My finder said we were in 15 feet of water. It sure felt good to get out on the ice again. I wish we could of met up or talked on 2-way radios to make fishing a little better. I'm hoping for some 2-way radios for Christmas. In another thread someone suggested that everyone get on ch.12 to see if any BFT people are on the lake. Happy fishing

Sure glad you guys were able to get into the fish. The 3 fish we caught were all 16", but it sure would have been fun to catch a few more. Oh well, still better than any day at work!!

My grandfather also went to Schofield and he did worse than you so don't feel bad. He and his friend had a total of three bites and didn't land anything. How close were you to the dam? I find that if I move just out of the channel down off the point from the campgrounds that I have better luck. The way I look at it the slower trips give you a good excuse to get back on the ice to try to do better.
