Derek and I talked about going to fish the tournament this morning but then decided we stunk so bad the last couple times we went that it would be like throwing $120.00 away. Derek headed for the G. I decided if I woke up early I would go and try to find some bass. I did wake up early so off I went. I think my wife may be right when she tells me I sometimes try too hard when I am in a tournament. Today with me just out for fun I was not in a rush and think I fished better. I started with a trap in shallow water but all I could find was buck bass and could only manage small keepers. I fished like that for a while mixing in a rig and a shakey. Just little bass. emoScratch I moved out to deeper water and started focusing on areas of transition where I thought there might be bass moving up to spawn but not there yet. That was the ticket for me today. I caught a better quality fish moving out deeper and most came from the 8 to 12 foot range. Nothing huge, just a couple over four was the best ones. The ones I was catching along the drops in the deeper water were mostly females where as the shallow bass appeared to be males. I tried the rig out deep but could only get them to bite a shakey. It was a little hard to tell the bite with the wind blowing 40 freaking miles an hour. emoAngry I missed several not realizing they were there until it was too late. I also lost two others that I hooked but they came off. Those two felt pretty good also. My best five today were around the 15 to 15.5 lb mark. Nothing that would win a tournament right now but I was just glad to catch some keepers. emoThumbsup Jmax

Here are a couple of the better bass, those pictures do not do those fish justice when you take them yourself. emoRolleyes
