Wiperslayer and I hit the bay this morning, hoping that the warming weather would get the wipers going but it was not to be. We moved around the lake hunting for some active fish but few fish were marked. Water temp at launch was 52* and it got up to 56* before we left around 3 pm. Fished Freeway bay and after making a few passes my rod went down but whatever it was, it decided it needed my lure more than I did[frown]. We headed toward the Openness, trolled the North dike for a while then headed toward the Island. By this time, around 1:30pm, we had tried just about everything and were starting over, when The Slayers rod went down and he reeled in the first eye of the year, a nice post spawn, 18" male. That was it but it was good to see the spawn was over for some of the eyes in Willard. I'm sure this is just the beginning and the catching will get better soon.
None of those big eye reports, like I keep reading about from UL but it is good to see there are a few fishing left at the Bay[Wink].

did you try out your new trolling motor

Yes I did as a matter of fact[Smile]. It ran good but the top speed was only 5.5 mph. It did get down to 1 mph, so all in all it should fill the bill[Wink]. Now I just need to figure out a way to steer it without sitting at the back of the boat[blush]. Thanks

[#484848]Did you ever install the steering thingy?[/#484848]

Not yet, I'm going to try something different tomorrow but the method we talked about did not work.

I'm surprised the top speed was that low on your boat but it is a pretty wide boat.so there is bound to be some extra resistance. I'm gonna try out my new motor this week. ran a little crappie when I got it but a carb overhaul got her running great[Smile]

Hey Curt thanks for the report, sounds like you had to work pretty hard for what you got. Did you see much on sonar and they just wouldn't bite, or was it hard to even find fishy marks? My last trip over I think I only graphed 9 fish all trip. I realize its shallow and the cone is pretty narrow at 10-15' but still I usually see a lot more marks. Well it will be nice if the eyes get the spawn over so they return to the places I can find them. Thanks again for the report. J

Hey Jeff, yea, it is tough catching out there right now but the water is as clear as I have seen it in a couple of years. I think the catching will turn on soon, at least I hope so. I would not say we marked a lot of fish but we saw them every where we fished.

That sounds encouraging. Thanks for the update and keeping an eye on things. Hopefully when the fish turn on I will be able to give them a try. Thanks J
