Anyone been by Huntington, Cleveland, or Electric Lake lately? Open water yet or are they still locked up in ice? Any info is helpful. Thanks

We were up to Cleveland 2 weeks ago. We had to dig through a one foot layer of slush that was frozen enough we could stand on it, then drill to the handle on my nils auger, probably 3 feet, to get to the water. Good news was that we didn't need to move, caught quite a few nice rainbow & it was a beautiful day. But I would bet it will be several weeks before it or Huntington open up enough to fish. Some parts of
Electric lake might be opening up by now, didn't go look.

Here's the report. 3 of us pulled up at Cleveland about 7:30. The snow was crusted so we walked on top, going through rarely on the way down to the lake. The crust layer was also frozen on the lake and it was like walking on a sidewalk across to the southwest corner of the dam (where the stream comes in. Went to drill the first hole with the electric strikemaster and couldn't make it through to the water - ice and frozen slush layer on top was too thick and I don't have an extension. We drilled out the slush layer on both sides of the hole and was able to put the auger head down into the slush layer just enough to drill through. While we were working on the second hole, Kevin pulled out a nice RB. We drilled 4 holes - good thing the fishing was fast enough we didn't have to move. About noon we headed back across the lake. The temperate weather had made the slush layer weak and we waded through the slush back. We worked for it today. Probably my last ice fix of the year.

Thanks BG1. I have a hard time getting my ice fix. I have only missed one weekend since Christmas, and that week I went ice fishing on the Monday holiday. This trip about did me in though. Post holing across the lake in the slush, boots filled with ice water and pushing the sled up the hill to the car on hands and knees was just a little bit too much fun.
I was surprised you knew my brother - that would be great to get together this summer. I found the lake you told me about with the floating island, but couldn't find the other one - maybe because it is too much like it's name.
