I don't usually request much help here but I could use a little direction for a change. I used to fish Utah Lake a lot 20+ years ago but moved away and it's changed a lot since. I will be visiting my son next weekend at UVU and he hasn't fished in several months. We will be shore bound and interested in finding a place to catch white bass or anything else including carp. I won't have time to run to the south end or the west side. We have no interest in harvest of any species we might catch.

Would Geneva dike or airport dike be worthwhile from shore? Any other areas you're willing to share by PM or otherwise. Thank ye kindly.[fishin]

[#0000FF]Both of the dike areas you mentioned should kick out some cats. They are moving into shallower water. Make a good long cast from shore with about 3' of line under a bobber. That is helpful to reduce snagging. There has been a shoreline restoration project going on that has cleaned out a lot of the phragmites and other shoreline vegetation...but there are still a lot of sunken roots.

Can't be too optimistic on the white bass. They took a big winter kill hit 2 winters ago and the numbers are still way down. Nobody has been getting any quantities as in years past.

There is a free park at Vineyard...just south of Lindon. You can park by the old access to the bubbleup and walk down. Water levels are still low but if you can get out to at least 3 - 4 feet of water you should get fish. Even some spawned out walleyes might munch on a crawler or minnow.

Thanks Pat. I know the guy who has been in charge of the phragmite project and it's pretty impressive what he's accomplished, a monumental task. I use to fish the Geneva area a lot but the last time I tried, several years ago, it was so jammed up with reed I couldn't hardly access the water. I will likely try that area given your assessment. Cats are not a bad alternative. I've noticed some nice ones in your basket caught near there.

Other thoughts and comments are still welcome. I know Pat is the UL "authority" but some of you other BFTers have good experience too.

Are there fish in that Geneva cooling pond? Can you fish it at all?
I've always been curious

As a dumb kid I used to try it and only caught snags. I was sure my lure would corrode off during my retreive. I'm pretty certain some people have released fish in there though, whether thy would survive is another question.

Thanks to those who replied with any help. Went out to the bubble up on Friday and only fished about an hour before we got blown out. Tried dip bait for cats with no luck. May have gotten a light bite or two but no hook ups. Caught one white bass on a small marabou jig under a float.

Had better luck on the way home catching a couple of 18-19' browns in quick 40 minute stop.
