Mr. Fuel and son, along with Mr. O’Shen and son, Todd, from Michigan chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The two sons and friends were down in Fort Lauderdale on college brakes, enjoying the weather and attractions. Winds were out of the south, southeast at 12 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., blue skies, temperatures in the high 80’s.

Of course, the only thing young college fellows want is to tangle with a Shark, so after leaving the dock at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 20 minutes later we were in 350 ft. of water off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL in our Shark grounds. I put out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes from the kite and our Shark baits consisted of a bottom, midrange and surface baits. Our first strike was an 8 lb. Mahi Mahi off the kite.

As the boys were sipping their beers and waiting for the dorsal fin to break the surface, the bottom bait rod bent over. We knew it was a Shark but the question was which type? One of the boys jumped into the fighting chair to do battle; thirty-five minutes later a Dusky Shark appeared by the side of the boat, as Mark, our mate, grabbed the leader; pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again. We set up again and waited and waited and waited – with no time left, it was time to bring in the lines. With two baits still out, the deep line bent over again and the fun was on. Another deep sea monster was at the end of the line. Todd jumped into the fighting chair to match his skills against the Shark and Todd and after a 45 minute battle won with an 8 ft. Golden Hammerhead Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released.

With war stories to tell their college buddies, we headed back while the anglers retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
