Started off great because we drew boat #1. Blasted off and went to first area and grabbed two keepers. Ended up having a small limit after Jason lost a 5-6 lber on a chatter bait. Went to a good area for post spawn fish and on first cast start getting bit. We culled three smaller fish for a couple over three and Jason sets the hook into what appeared to be a stump for a second. He said it was a drum and his 8 lber comes completely out of the water! I thought it was a much bigger fish than that but it was 8.05 I think. Later we fished some structure in 9 FOW with grass mixing into it and my shakey head got nailed. Set the hook and broke my line. The fish jumped a few times and looked to be a 4-5 lber. That sucked! A little further up I chunked my jig as far as I could and must've hit one in the head. Line took off and I stuck another fish over 5! We still had one fish that was 2.15 that we wanted to cull but that never happened. We ended up with 24 and change which was good enough for 2nd place and Jason's 8lber got us big fish. I really think we could've won it all with those two big ones we lost but I'm still very pleased with our results. The winners had a great sack of fish that weighed 27 and change and third place had 21 and change. Lots of people caught good fish and the weather turned out decent. We caught all our fish on a chatter bait a jig and a shakey head. We didn't catch anything deeper than 15 ft and temps were in the mid 70s. Must say it was another well ran event and a big thanks to everyone who organizes these.
