Went out on the Newton ice Saturday morning with kickenbass. I had Christmas shopping commitments so I had to leave at 10:00 am. The catching wasn't stellar but from what I could see on the sidefinder there are plenty of fish to be caught. I got two filletable perch and four small crappie. Four of these came in the last ten minutes before I had to go.

Down by the dam the we fished water that was 11 ft deep and I figure that is about the max for now. Ice at the dam was 2.5" thick but good clear ice. We also fished about 400 yds uplake in 9 ft water and the ice was 4+" thick. Saw even more fish on the sidefinder there and they were more receptive but thats when I had to leave[Sad]

Newton should not be ignored by anyone just yet but hopefully if fishin there isn't what you want then Hyrum and Porcupine are nearby and icing up too.

Thanks for the report Fishnate, at least we know all the fish arn't dead. Was the water clear or muddy? What time did you start fishing and how did Kickenbass do? WH2

Water near the dam was murky. I'd loose sight of my jig at about 1.5 ft. Further up the res it cleaned up a bit I could see my jig down about 2.5-3 ft. I drilled my first hole about 7:30 am and kickenbass showed up about 8:00 or so. He had several bites but didn't hook up while I was there. I used nightcrawlers and hooked two the other fish were caught on Power wigglers since I didn't have any real maggots. The challenge here seems to be finding the larger fish and getting them to bite.
