My buddy and I started out at Lost Creek today about 8-11:30 fished in 20'and it was non stop the whole time for 10-14"s around 40 fish before we left!!Then we decided to hit Causey on the way home.We fished the middle finger and cought splake as fast as you could get your jig down. All of them were small 6-10" except 1 that went 17" the fish up there hit from just below the ice all the way to the bottom!! We fished from 10'-75'!!Either one of these places would be great to take kids as fast as the action was!!Thanks Aquaman/Petty for the tips!!M.H.

Fast and furious...that is what makes trips to Lost Creek and Causey a lot of fun. Thanks for the report.

Great report Muskyhunter, I can remember the water in the middle finger being 80 or 90 ft deep, with the lake being or low at Causey it must not be very deep now. Maybe we can get up there and do some fishing over the holidays? WH2

We also fished Lost Creek yesterday. We took the grandkids up and they had a ball. We caught a total of 108 fish. We did geet some pretty nice ones and we saw the monster of Lost Creek down through the hole. When we put up the tents you could see quite aways down the hole. He would look at our bait and just cruise on by.It was a great day fishing.

Did you leave some for me? I'm headed up tomorrow. Hows about some specifics on location and stuff you used? We need to name the "monster" - how about something like "Lost Creek Monster" ala the Loch Ness Monster? Nah, that's kinda corny. Any ideas?

I also went to Causey on Saturday. I had good success with the Splake as well. I used a yellow ice fly below a spoon tipped with a meal worm. I was in 34 feet of water and right off the middle of the dam. I caught them at all depths.

Also I drove by Echo and it has iced over but is NOT SAFE.

MrLipripper, when we were up there most everyone was fishing just off the dam is about 20'!The hot colors were glow and hot pink tubes in 1/32 oz. with an orange sweetish pimple about 15" below, both tipped with wax worms!!good luck M.H.

Thanks, MH. I'll bring the kitchen sink, too, just in case. Should be a great day! MrLR

[#0000ff]MrLipripper: Can't bring the "kitchensink", I'm all out of it! That is the name of one of my salsa's, It was the last batch made of the year (summer) and contained all types of garden extras that you would not think of putting into a salsa, wound up being one of the best I ever made.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Have fun![/#0000ff]

Hey, FFM, I love salsa and would really enjoy trying some of your recipes sometime. You know it's kind of difficult typing with the pictures of the 2004 Hunting Girls calendar popping up just to the right on the screen.[blush] Anyway, thanks for the info; I may just try both of them with Lost Creek first.

We fished with just about everything. We used white and pink foxee jigs, white what a crickets, rat finkees and my son caught a few on a green gitzit. It seemed it didn't matter what we threw down the hole they were hitting it.I have never fished for trout with plastics before but they did well. When they would quit hitting the what a cricket we would tip it with a worm and they were back. Most of them were hitting it on the way down.We even had ones chasing it on the way up.

We were also at Causey yesterday. It was hot fishing. We each caught about 30 splake. Once we realized that they were hitting with or without bait, we starting jigging for them and catching just as many. What a fun trip. I may go up tomorrow and bring my brother from Hawaii. He may freeze but at least he will catch a lot of fish.

That also wound up being one of the best salsa's I ever ate!!![Tongue][laugh]

IS THE GATE OPEN AT LOST CREEK AND DID YOU FISH OFF THE DAM OR WERE YOU ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND TO THE BOAT RAMP?
[signature]
hi fishking welcome to the site the gate has been open most people have been fishing off the dam but a couple of people have made it down by the boat ramp as well see a lot of truck haul snowmobils that way also

I went to Lost Creek yesterday with my kids. It didn't take long to catch our limit which boosted their spirits greatly. Because it was the first time for me I was unaware that it was a state park. I had my snowmobile and shelter with me but didn't use them. The Eskimo is too heavy to drag up the steep slopes I saw others use but because of the signs advising that OHVs are not to be used I didn't use the sled. Not that big of a deal but if it were really cold the shelter would be nice. There were no snowmobile tracks in the area until well past the dam, upstream where there was a parking area. Is this the ramp area? I'm sure there are differing views on this issue but what are the regulations for state parks in Utah? I'll check the website for the parks too. Thanks for letting me know about this reservoir because the twins needed the morale boost and practice.

Never mind. OHVs include snowmobiles. I won't bring one to Lost Creek again. If Pineview ever freezes again and if I have to cover the entire lake to find perch I'll likely bring one there. Until then I'll just stick to Wyoming reservoirs with my sled.

It’s not a State Park’s rule. The Bureau of Reclamation has band OHV from the area because of the land owner above the dam. OHV can allow the public to access the private land behind the second gate and the private land owners have asked the BOR to band OHV’s. Other State Parks do allow you to drive an OHV to the ice and that is it (Hyrum has let me us my ATV and sled). The BOR owns most of the dams and property around the dams in the state and they set the rules for the area. In talking to BOR they have had complaints about trash that’s left on the water from ice fisherman using OHV to drag out their gear (Logs for fires, old couches, and other trash). Because of this they have been asked by water managers to band OHV’s on ice state wide. Personally I think they get most of the junk from the shores when the reservoir is filling and so does the BOR.

Thanks FW,

For the record I brought several gum and candy wrappers, plastic cups and lids off the ice the other day. The kids (only 5 years old) yelled at me for leaving somebody's blue shop paper towels out there. I was going to pick them up but saw human feces along with them. I wasn't prepared to take that home with me. Let's all do a better job of packing out what we bring in.
