[#800000]Every year these boards and others get the same questions about entrance into state and federal facilities. The information about all of these passes is readily available via the Internet if people would just take the time to find it. And all of it can be found in a minute or less.[/#800000]

[#800000]At the federal level, the passes are now called ‘America the Beautiful’. They have replaced all of the ‘Golden’ passes which are no longer available but will be honored if you still have one. I have one of the ‘Golden’ lifetime passes and it works just fine at any facility that accepts the passes. There are a couple of federal facilities that don’t but they are the very rare acceptations.[/#800000]

[#800000]The new America the Beautiful passes come as a series that cover different groups of folks. They are the Annual Pass, the Senior Pass, the Access Pass, and the Volunteer Pass. All of these passes cover facilities at National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation properties. The pass is your ticket to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites. The pass covers entrance and standard amenity fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle at per vehicle fee areas (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person). Children age 15 or under are admitted free.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]The Annual Pass is available free to U.S. military members and dependents in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard and also, Reserve and National Guard members. It must be obtained in person at a Federal recreation site by showing a Common Access Card (CAC) or Military ID (Form 1173).[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]The Pass does not cover discounts on any Expanded Amenity or Concessionaire (Concessioner) Fees (Pineview & Strawberry fall into this category) such as: camping, RV hook-ups, boat launching, backcountry permits, parking at Mount Rushmore, guided cave tours at Wind Cave National Park, or parking at some historic monuments or homes.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]The Senior and Access pass holders may get a 50 percent discount on some amenity fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. I did get a 50% reduction in my camping fee at Strawberry last year, but ONLY for the camping and NOT the $8 electrical hook-up. I would recommend that if you have one of the federal passes and are going to camp that you ask for the discount. The worst that can happen is that they will say no.[/#800000]

[#800000]The Utah State issued passes are a totally different pass and DO NOT work at federal facilities like Pineview and Strawberry. They also DO NOT work at county, city, or privately run facilities like Mantua and Lindon Marina.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]There are basically two passes available to the general public: the Annual Pass and the Senior Adventure Pass. The Annual Pass provides you, and up to seven guests in the same private vehicle, day-use entrance to most Utah state parks; with these exceptions: it is only valid for one rider/machine at Jordan River OHV State Recreation Area, it is not valid at ‘This Is The Place Heritage Park’, and it does not cover the Davis County Causeway fee at Antelope Island State Park. The cost is $75 per year.[/#800000]

[#800000]The Board of Utah State Parks and Recreation approved a new discounted pass for Utah veterans with disabilities effective February 1, 2011. Veterans with a service-connected disability of 50% or greater may purchase the Annual Pass for $35, which is more than 50% off the regular price. Qualified veterans are asked to complete an affidavit and attach appropriate documentation.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]The Senior Adventure Pass covers the same as an Annual Pass but sells for $35 per year and is available to anyone 62 years of age or older.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]The state passes can be purchased on-line, through the mail by printing out the application and mailing it in, at your favorite state park, or at the Salt Lake City Office. Passes are valid for one year from date of purchase, are non-transferable, and are not replaced if lost or stolen.[/#800000]

[#800000]So there you have it. I guess I would only add that you need to determine who exactly owns a facility (Federal, State, County, City, etc.) before you go so that you will then know which pass you will need to purchase/use to get in. For some, the daily fees work best and for others the annual pass is the better bargain.[/#800000]

[#800000]Now get your butt off the computer and get out there and catch some fish. [cool][/#800000]
