Put the Prangler kayak in again today. Weather when I arrived at 9:30 am was black clouds, spitting rain and a pretty good wind from the south. Waves were 12" - 18" as I headed to my crappie hump off Eagle Beach. Anchored up when the GPS and depth finder said I was there. Had a crappie on with five seconds of dropping a jig boatside and limited out in 90 minutes.

While I ate a bite, I put our a catfish rod and had one interrupt my brunch. Guess we were both hungry. Pretty standard 18-incher.

Pedaled across to the NW dike, pulling a rattletrap at 2.5 mph, but no takers. The wind by then had dropped to a calm and then shifted to a zephyr from the west - just perfect for drifting a bouncer and worm harness down the 10' break line along the dike. No walleye, but I did land a smallmouth.

I can report that the new fish-cleaning station is a honey. Very quiet-running and efficient.

Bank tanglers were getting crappie left and right in the marina. One guy told me he had landed 37 and kept his legal 10. He was using a black and bright green tube jig under a bobber - right off the boat ramp.

Water temps were 62° all over and the crappie I caught in deeper water had eggs still. Now's the time to get 'em, folks! Just remember there's a two-day possession limit, so eat some if you're going back more than twice.

Great report and writing! I've never fished Willard. It's one of the few major waters I've not visited. I'd like to give it a try sometime.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey I thought that was you Rocky. I was out at the Bay on Monday as well. I said hi to ya but you must not have recognized me without an Aqua-Vu in my hand. I was the white and green boat that was coming into the marina the same time as you.

I’ll second the comments on both the crappie fishing and the cleaning station. Nice and nice!

I'm sorry I didn't notice the wave. I was busy trying to mark the marina entrance on my GPS - just in case I ever get fogged in while out on the Bay. Had my "eyes in the cockpit" as we used to say.
