But not what you think.
Got to my crappie hump outside the North Marina at 10:30 on the dot. Had a limit of 10 crappie at 10:42. Twelve minutes. And on a total of six casts.
On my two-jig rig, I caught a single, then five doubles in a row, for 11 crappie. I released one of the last pair, of course. Then went three more casts, ALL with released doubles before I called it quits.
I trolled around for a couple of hours, but could not find a wiper or a walleye. I did land a few smallmouth bass, all of which I released. When I pedaled back to the marina there were two guys in pontoons who had caught only two crappie between them in two hours. I led them back to my spot and had them drop anchor. They chose to ignore my recommendation as to lure choice, but still completed their own limits within 20 minutes.
Once again, I forgot to take a photo of the fish before I cleaned them, but here they are minus the good parts. Note thr eggs sac in the topmost fish. Two of eight were female with eggs, the rest were male.
And the good parts
Situation report: water temp was 72° and underwater visibility was a good three feet in the main lake, much less in the marina. Carp are going nuts everywhere. THE hot lures for me were a 1.5" yellow tube jig and a chartreuse jig head with a 3" Gulp emerald shiner body. Yes, 3". And they were taking the whole thing completely down their throats. HUNGRY boogers.
