Heath had a co-worker ask him to take her 7 yr old fishing, so we made a plan of attack and brought shiners and worms to make this a trip for the young man to remember. We opted for the lake above the dam for variety and lack of boat traffic.

It was painfully slow as we had a hard time even loosing worms.

We finally zeroed in on one tiny spot near the lock that was loaded with 1-1.5lb blue and channel cats, and since we had ultralight gear it was a hoot!

Letting a 1/32 oz jig get 47 feet down is a long wait for a kid....

We ended the day freelining some shiners and lo and behold Joey catches a giant of a crappie, the picture does NOT do it justice as it was over 15"! One more about 12" and we called it a night. Joey and his mom had a terrific time, but Heath and I were embarrassed in the trouble we had finding fish to bite.

All in all, it turned out great and we have made a new fisherman for life I bet.
