With all the great reports coming out of Willard i decided to take a break from my quest to catch a tiger musky and busted out the planer boards and try my luck. we launched about 6pm from the south marina and had our spread of assorted baits in the water shortly after the channel - we nailed a couple in the first hour in the 18-20 inch range. after that we tried different depths, baits , and nada.....until one of the planer boards starts heading behind the boat. I grabbed the rod and could tell its a nice heavy fish - get the planer board off . keep reeling and i see my lure - i was like what? then i see my lure has some braided line tied to it . i reel in my lure as far as i can and grab the extra line by hand. my buddy has the net out , then we see a big wiper break the surface. not sure how big these fish get since this is my first encounter with one but this thing had to be all of 7 lbs - and then it happened. the line busted that was tied to my lure when the fish was about 5 feet from the net . now that was a memorable battle. strong fish .
never seen so many bugs as i did at the cleaning station!!! pure craziness.
fun night at willard. fun first trip out there.
