Full Version: Lower Provo River Access Question

Last night we were fly fishing the section of the Lower Provo below the Deer Creek Dam near the trailer park in Provo Canyon and a resident of the trailer park told us that we were tresspassing. We entered the river at walk in access point down below and walked up the river to this point. Can someone help me understand if we were in fact tresspassing? I had previously heard that that there was a recorded easement for sportsman and fishermen through this area. What about all of the rafters that float through this area? This may be further complicated by the poor law that the legislature passed a couple of years ago.

I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

I think you were on private "land". The way I understand it, is you cannot touch the ground, therefore tubers are legal.
The law is ridiculous.
Hope everything turned out well in spite of this.

I don't fish the Provo much because of the rampant criminal behavior of landowners but are you talking about the land in this easement by chance : http://www.i9studios.com/USAC/AultUDOT_P...sement.pdf
If so print a copy out and take it with you. Call the cops on anyone trying to illegally make you leave.
Criminals including those in our Legislature suck.

Depends on were about where you were on The LP I use to fish there regularly but it can get tricky due to Hb181 and a certain property owner.

When you say "Trailer Park" do you mean the reserved camping area right off of HW189 ? Maybe quarter mile from the Dam ? Or ???

DeerCreekCampground
Description:
This 0.50 mile fishing property is located about one mile southeast of Deer Creek Reservoir on Highway 189.
Primary Purpose or Activity: Fishing
Special Restrictions:
Anglers must stay on West side of river to fish. Do not cross river to the other side or you will be trespassing. Please respect people and campers in campground. You may fish from the island.

This is from the Walk-in Access section of the DWR website.

I know they don't want you wandering around the campground but I fished the area a lot this spring and never had any issues. If you have a walk-in access permit, have signed in and stay on the correct side of the river you should be okay.

I fish the Lower in that area often and haven't had an issue as long as I don't walk through the campground. I stay in the river and have talked to people in the trailers that don't seem to take issue with me being there. Two years ago there was one cabin owner that confronted people and tried to get the whole association to enforce it and some of the other cabin owners rejected the idea and actually put up signs that said welcome fishermen, but please respect our property. So the battle continues and it is still in the courts who will ultimately decide.
