Just got back from Brownlee, here's an update:
- nearly at full pool & water is starting to bloom - 72 degree surface temp
- all the bass we caught were dinks under 12" - and we caught a bunch of those - sort of fun on ultra-light tackle.
- some guys were after crappie and caught buckets full all around 6" or so
- there was a tournament on 6/9 and the report I heard was that the winner weighted in at 12lbs for 5 fish. They certainly knew more about fishing Brownlee that we did. In general none of the old timers there had caught any (or many) bass over 12".
BUT... BUT... predictably.... we were told you could catch all the 16-18" smallies you wanted 2 weeks ago.
So - my advice to all of you - just ask me when I'm going fishing and then you go 2 weeks earlier - or 2 weeks later, that's when they will be biting!! Argh!!

That place drives me crazy, this spring they were deep under the crappie. The next week they were tight on the bank. Where'd you fish?

We mostly fished from the Dam to Sturgill Ck., points, walls, etc., next to shore. Tried deeper, didn't produce.

We just got back from Brownlee last night and had a great time.

The water temperatures were 65-68 every day. We fished from Connor Creek up to Spring Recreation Site. We found fish everywhere. We caught plenty of smaller bass and even a few larger smallmouth bass. The larger smallmouth were in fairly shallow 12' or so and seemed to be associated with the large schools of crappie.

The crappie fishing was extremely fast for small fish we measured the larger crappie and they were 8 1/2". I won't even estimate how many crappie we caught because....I couldn't even believe it. We kept and filleted enough to give me a sore thumb.

The weather was very pleasant and the wind wasn't an issue which was very unusual.

I have attached a few pictures below.
