I'm always in awe of the fishing knowlege shared by the members here and hopefully someone can help me out. I'm going to Bear Lake this weekend and was wondering if there's any chance of catching fish from shore at this time of year. It seems everything I've heard about Bear Lake fishing involves downriggers and boats and fish finders unless its ice-off. If someone has had some success, do you have pointers on how to fish Bear Lake from shore at this time of year? I do have waders and could walk out a bit.
Much Thanks!

I'm not an expert and a boat guy mostly these days, but I used to fish from shore and depending on the current regulations I would fish where the creeks dump into the lake. There is a spawn closure and specific areas where you can't fish, but I used to do quite well with a red and white dare devil. Also off Cisco beach gets deep fast and that area can work for shore fishing as well. Good luck. J

If you want to catch trout from shore than you're in a tough spot. While it is possible, its not too likely unless you try long lining some sucker meat or a Cisco from shore on the east side. To do that, you will need some way to take your line out a hundred yards or more. Cisco beach is best for this. A kayak, floaty pool toy or life jacket can get you out there. Then its a bait fishing waiting game.
Alternatively, you could go to the Garden City community fishing pond or little creek reservoir by Randolph and get all the good shore fishing you want for rainbows and cutthroats up to 20".
Stop by pugstones in garden city and ask Darren what the conditions are when you get here, he's a good guy and will set you up.
